Mr. Tripp,
my grandmother was Jennie Belle Lavoie the daughter of Maxime Lavoie and Elizabeth Spinks and twin to Alexander. I have census records, birth records, marriage records and death records but beyond that I have no info as to why she does not appear in the family trees of her siblings or why she left Fort Coulonge. If you know of any info or know of someone who may have info on her early life i would appreciate it very much.
FYI Maxime & Elizabeth were married in Ontario not Quebec.

Thanks for your reply. I was just investigating the possibility that some of Martha's relatives might have also came to Canada. There were quite a few Somerals/ Smirls/ Somervilles in the Ottawa valley/Quebec area....can't place any of them as coming from County Monaghan. The 1829 Tithe Applotment records for Monaghan show John and James Sumeral in Agnhamullen parish; and William Somerville, and James & Thomas Summerville. There is also a Samuel, Thomas and William Sumerall in Agnhamullen. This parish is not far from Clontibret where James & Martha Newell were living. Lots of research to do yet!

I only have one extremely thin reference to county Cork that I'm inclined to just label as outright wrong. It comes from this book: http://www.ourroots.ca/e/page.aspx?id=864196

Why is it likely wrong? Frances Grace Somerville was the daughter of James Somerville and Anne Findlay, not a William Somerville. That fact is indisputable.

One of the daughters of Frances Grace was Sheilagh Somerville Jameson, who was the curator of the Glenbow Museum in Calgary. If anyone would have known where the Somervilles came from in Ireland, it would have been her. In any of her material that I've come across so far, I have found no mention of the original homeland.

Do you know where Thomas Somerville came from in Ireland? I am trying to make a connection with my ancestor Martha Someral/Somerville (born about 1780) who married James Newell; lived in County Monaghan, Ireland; came to near Wakefield, Quebec in the 1830s; later moved to Elgin County.

The question I was responding to is: were all irish to Allumette from the same location in Erin.

For at least my ancestors experience they were not.

The Michael Cleary's came from County Clare and the (Irish) Thomas McGuires from Enniskillen in Fermanagh.(MaGuires bridge/castle). By census taker or by choice they dropped the Ma for Mc in Canada.

Second Marriage recorded 2 Sept 1872 see Droin Collection Registre Lapass ont. Page 76. You can gain access to it by Ancestry Ca.

Hi Bill, at this point I conjecture that NO they did not all come from the same part of Ireland. One lead you might check is the Peter Robinson(thus Peterborouygh) emigration scheme. It's most famous for the ancestors now living in the Lindsay-Peterborough areas, but I believe Robinson also brought Irish to settle along the south side of the Ottawa River in Ontario, starting perhaps roughly in the Lanark county area. By the time the property purchases had stretched up to Pembroke, the Irish then crossed over to Chapeau and then to Chichester Township,Pontiac County Quebec. Hi Bill, my name is Ronald Gerald Francis Crowley, great great grandson of John Crowley who came to Chichester Township Pontiac County Quebec from Ireland. First, many of the Pontiac Irish lived in other, somewhat near, parts of Canada(i.e.-Ottawa) before they moved to the Pontiac. Also, many were part of the famous Peter Robinson emigration project. Many people think of Peterborough Ontario as the core of this move by the British government. All that being said, one, if serious, must get a copy of the Irish In Ontario by Donald Harman Akenson, a prof at Queen's University in Kingston. This fine book helps one to fill in the spaces left by Irish pioneer oral history. In additiion,I shall gladly work with you to fill in our genealogical spaces. ron

My name is Barry Kilroy. My whole family is from that branch of the Kilroys settling in that area arriving from Ireland 1840's.
My father Willis; his father Alfred Kilroy married to Catherine Allger had their farm on Vanier road in aylmer(now Kilroy crescent area) I believe my grandfathers sister Louisa or Louida? married a kennedy. Another one of my grandfathers sisters married a Brennan. My is greatgrandfather Martin (b. 1840) and married April 26 1875 to Catherine Myles (Kilroy) b. 1848. Martins' father was Patrick Kilroy married to a Mary Ryan. Patricks' father was John Kilroe(kilroy) married to Mary Dunn. hope this fits in to your tree.

my wife is related to the Murtagh family from Vinton, I have 40 Murtagh names in my file starting with Francis ( b. 1803 )who married Bridget Moran. They had 8 known children all born at Vinton.

I had an aunt with the unusual name of Lyda,She was born Vinton Queb. 1913,died 1973,spent most of her life in a institution in Cobourg Ontario.. Supposedly she was an unwed girl that got locked away and forgotten, Would she be related to your family.

I am hoping someone will recognize the people in this photo. The larger man standing with the mustache is my great grandfather James Henry Harney. He was born in Chapeau, Quebec. Louis Corriveau 1834 married Philomene Martin approx' 1871 Ille du Grand calumet & is buried at Vinton Quebec in 1906.
He was her great great grandfather.
Her mothers family are Neville's also I think from the Pontiac area,

Bless you for sharing this helpful information. Mary Ann Crawford was my great-greatgrandmother. I heard from another source that her family was from Northern Ireland but that's all I know. I think she was born between 1821 -1823 in Ireland. I assume she was married to Joseph Valliant in the Anglican Church because they are listed in the census as being members of the C of E. though the children were mostly married in the Presbyterian church. My father was Borden Valliant,born in Beachburg, my grandfather was William Valliant born in Bryson)..my great grandfather was Mary Ann's son John Valliant, Litchfield). Mary Ann and her husband Joseph Valliant according to the census lived in the Upper Litchfield area...near Bryson or Shawville?
I don't know where they are buried or exactly where they lived. I looked around some graveyards in the Campbell's Bay area and didn't find anything.
Any other information about the Crawfords or the Valliants would be gratefully received. This is the only part of my ancestry that has been a total roadblock! Can't seem to go further back from either Mary Ann Crawford and Joseph Valliant.so thank you once again for this possible break through or at least info. addition.

Margaret Crawford born around 1830 was probably from N. Ireland . She was married to Joseph Dufault /Dufaux at the Anglican church in Clarendon in 1849 . Margaret died after having several children & Joseph re-married Henriette Belanger & went to live & die on Calumet Island & had many Dufault descendants.
Maragaret may have been sister of Mary Ann Crawford.

I have a Thomas Mousseau ( no details) who married Margaret Dollighan at Vinton, 10 Jan 1878.
Margaret was born at Creggan County Armagh Ireland 1844.

Hi although this is quite an old post...I thought I might be able to help somewhat. I am Retty descendant. My original great great great grandfather was Michael Retty married to Sophia Shannighan and what I can figure came from Ireland and settle in Sheenboro Quebec...the "farm". One of Michael's and Sophias sons was Bartholomew Retty married to Adeline Grant...and Sara Anne was a child of theirs...she married James Tait...this is what I have been able to figure out so far. pegianne47@hotmail.com

I have been searching for years for any information of the parents of Adelaide Lapierre married to Etienne Larochelle- have found numerous information on their children, namely David Larochelle and Alexander Larochelle, however cannot locate any information on either parents - Etienne born about 1816 and died between 1861-1871. He married Adelaide October 4, 1841 in Basilique Notre Dame, Bytown, she was born abt 1828 and died 1908 in Rolph wp. Their son David married Mary Ann Camley in Pontiac, Sept 24, 1877 in Pontiac, Alexander born 1860.

Wow..thank you for your prompt response. Guess I have to move either further into Quebec, or more into Renfrew as that is where they were settled from prior to 1861 to 1881 according to census resutls and birth/marriage records of their children and then they landed in Alpena, Michigan about 1882-83
