hello, I'm the great-great grand-daughter of Napoleon Blais and Virginie Carriere. I know nothing more then their names and where they came from before moving to Canada. Could you please reply and let me know where you found this information? I would really love to learn more about them.

Thank you very much for your answer! I found all the family as you said, but John and Adelaide were 84 and 75 years old during the 1901 census, so their parents are obviously not in it... Do you know where I could search to find who were their parents?

Thank you!

Barry,
I am looking for quite a number of McKenzies. I am descended for James, b. 1805, and George and then Frank, b. 1869.
Yesterday I found that someone on Ancestry had put on a MacKenzie Family Tree with James McKenzie - by bmack951. Do you know who that is? I surely would like to catch up with him/her - there are so many names there that are in my ancestry!!
Any ideas?
Evelyn (Boyd)Hitchcock

The McGillvray is the one in Lochaber(Val-d'or). Those 2 are pretty close.

The Cemetiere of the Gore is not easy to see from the road.

The Lochaber Bay Cemetery is at the west side of Thurso.

Doltmann, I've tried your link and it's say we need a username and password ... and you are right The McGillvray is on Range 7. This one is easy to see from the road.

The North Nation Mills are wonderfull, specially in Spring.

Have a good day !
Jacynthe

The Gore cemetery is 5 miles north of Highway 148 on The Gore Road (about halfway between Plaisance and Thurso).

The McGillvray cemetery is a little ways west of The Gore Road on the road to Valdor (7em Range I think it is).

Don't get lost. There are a couple of jogs in The Gore Road. One leads to the falls at North Nation Mills (very pretty).

Map at http://brockvillemasons.ca/myweb37/maps/TheGoreTopo.pdf

loll you'll be surprise. You will be able to just go out and hunt. The Catholic cemetery in Thurso is the biggest I would say. The ones from Lochaber are very small, just few tombstones. You maybe meet there a marmot or a deer, but no office for sure.

Good hunt !
Jacynthe

William Kiernan Born abt. 1806 in Ireland died 20 Jun 1888 in Thurso. His first wife Margaret Anne O'Reilly was born abg 1795 in Ireland and died in Thurso on 3 or 30 of Oct. 1878. Both are in St. Jean l'Evangeliste records as buried in that cemeter but no stones. There are early land records showing a William and William II got land grants in Lochaber in 1826-1831. Also 1842 census in Lochaber showning William. There is a Frank and a Patrick Kiernan on the Petite Nation census of 1851.Father and son??Related to William. Lots of other Kiernans in the area. Widow Bridget Kiernan on 1871 census in Lochaber. Wife of one of them?

William and Margaret had two girls for sure. Mary Margaret (Maggie) says in a letter I have that she was born in Albany NY on 16 of March 1839. No records of that. He sister Mary Ann (Annie) was born 9 Feb 1840 in Quebec per records and died on 15 Nov 1868 in childbirth. Buried at St. Jean's. There is a Frank/Francis born abt 1839 that I believe is a son as he married Elizabeth Quigg and I find her living with other known relative Kiernan's in Wisconsin as a widow.
There is also a John Patrick Kiernan who was born 1 Jan 1846 in Quebec and died in Wisconsin 1936. His death certificate states his mother is Jane Chappman and father is William H. Kiernan. I know he is related to me as I have a letter his granddaughter sent my grandfather referring to him as Uncle Fred.

Phew! Moving on to Chapmans. John Chapman born abt. 1838 and was married to Maggie Kiernan Papineauville in 1858. On 1861 census living with her parents. I can find no record of his birth but his father was also John Chapman and mother was Sarah Walker/Waller. I have found a James Chapman born 16 April 1839. Baptized at St. Phillippe Church of Scotland. So am thinking that the Chapman's were not Catholic and John Jr. may have converted to marry maggie.

John and Maggie had 7 children, I can find records on John(3), Margaret,William Francis, Henry Robert (Ripon) Ann Catherine and Edmund William but not on Elizabeth Rosemond or my grandfather Frederick James. On all of his draft papers, death certificate etc he states he was born Feb 14 1875 in Aplena, MI but all census records in the states for his siblings show they didn't immigrate until 1881. And Ann Catherine was born 25 Nov 1874 per St. Jean's records.

Well that is a lot of info. Yes I am going to St. Jean's and St. Angelique. There is a John Chapman buried at Thurso Protestant cemetery who fits the date of John 1. I think I must consider checking non catholic cemeteries.

I will be staying in Ottawa for 5 nights. Want to go to Montebello as well. Any hints, direction or otherwise would be appreciated. You can go directly to me at debewilson@att.net.
Thanks

Peter
I am actually going there next month but I wrote a letter to the church and they were very nice and responded. Most of mine were buried there 1850-1900, unfortunately there was only one gravestone out of all of them. If you write them and find out if there is one I would be happy to take a picture for you.
Debe

Diane Apel recently updated her Papineau County, Province Quebec, WorldConnect Database at Rootsweb.ancestry.com. It is excellent and extensive! Not exactly sure, but I believe her connections are through the Thomas Spooner family (Irish) who once lived in/around Buckingham. I, for one, was able to extract some new information about my Cox ancestors also of Papineau County. Check out the search engine at the URL below.

Thomas Spooner – Buckingham Quebec and Related Families (by Diane Apel)

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=thos-spoo...
I'm not sure how to connect with you. They don't allow us to include e-mail addresses here. That's why I sent you a note with my info. Maybe it is still on its way to Thurso. I am in the Seattle area of Washington State.

Hi Lawrence, Did you receive my note in the mail (post)?
You and I both have the very same question. James's wife was Ann Seray (or Surrey). No one seems to know the exact spelling. I have started to surmise that James came from Mayo, but have no record or way of knowing. Unfortunately, they just listed "Ireland" on the census records. I am excited to meet you and confirm that you and I are cousins. Are you verifying that with me. What more info can I provide, to make this happen?

My great great grandfather was James Kennedy, b. 1795. My great grandfather was William Kennedy, b. 1823. My grandfather was William Kennedy, b. 1878. You (Lawrence Kennedy) mention that your grandfather was Patrick Kennedy.
I think he was my great grandfather's brother. My grandparents migrated to Ohio from Buckingham, Ottawa and from the Thurso area, in the early 1900's.
