La Petite Nation - Celina Quevillon

La Petite Nation - Celina Quevillon

Hi, I'm researching Celina Quevillon/Couvillon. I believe she was born around 1850 in Quebec. She married Antoine Delorme in the early 1870's. I believe their first child was Antoine Delorme who was born in August 1872 in Prescott, Ontario and baptized in Ottawa.

I have found her listed on the 1851 census in La Petite Nation. I think it is her but I'm not 100% sure. I cannot find her birth, her marriage to Antoine and nor can I find any census records for her in 1861 or 1871. She's very difficult to find.

If any one can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,
Suzanne Desormeaux

I am also researching in Petite Nation 1800-1820 and have both Marcotte and Couvillon in my family tree. Perhaps we should compare notes, but in english please, I can't follow the french notes.

Hi Judi,

I can speak in English, no problem. The Marcottes are not actually my ancestors. Theotiste David is. She married Marcotte after her husband, Louis Quevillon/Couvillon died. Who are your ancestors?

We can certainly share info.

Regards,
Suzanne

How I admire people who can correspond in two languages, I can barely handle one. My families came from Quebec into Ontario in the early 1800`s. Interesting that the names you mention belong to one family in my tree.

Abraham Joseph Bedard 1796 Mtl - 1885 Ontario was s/o Simon Jean Bedard and Marguerite Chalifou. Abraham married in Perth, ON 1825 to Marguerite Couvillon 1810-1847 d/o Joseph Couvillon 1780 and Angelique Vachon 1790-1839.

Meanwhile, Abraham's brother Joseph Pierre Bedard 1791 Quebec - 1863 Ontario s/o Simon and Marguerite married in Perth 1823 Margaret Marie Marcotte 1793-1872 d/o Jean Baptiste Marcotte and Charlotte Rougeau Reniere who married in 1788 in Yamachiche, Quebec

Any of this sound familiar. I am trying to connect these families to Petite Nation, Quebec abt 1800-1820 before they came to Ontario. Also trying to connect them to the War of 1812, as Simon Bedard received land in Ontario due to his participation.

Hi Judi,

Thank you for the compliments. Living in Quebec has given me the added benefit of being bilingual. I moved back to Quebec so that my two boys could attend French school and be perfectly bilingual.

I am not familiar with any of the people that you have mentioned. Celina Couvillon, I believe, was born in La Petite Nation. She is listed in the 1851 Census of La Petite Nation.

What is your connection with La Petite Nation? Was Marguerite from there?

Before Simon SR Bedard came to Ontario, he was a farmer living at the seigneury of Petite Nation and moved between there and Montreal and Rigaud, Quebec to bp his children in the early 1800's. I know there was an Algonquin community there and I am trying to connect the Bedard family or one of the wives (Chalifou, Derochie, Marcotte, Chevalier, etc) to the Algonquin nation and further back to Maniwaki and Kitigan Zibi. Marguerite Chalifou was from Montreal where there was also a Native community, but more of a melting pot with many nations.

Allo Jacynthe,
