Chauvin La Petite Nation

I am also looking for family in La Petite Nation. Looking for Leon Chauvin and his wife Mary/Marie Bruillet/Brule. Born abt 1820. Their son Thomas, my husbands gr grandfather was born in 1849 in Ottawa Canada. 1842 Lower Canada Census I found on Family Search shows only Leon Chauvin and a category that says he may have 2 other family members. Also, there is something written before his name on the census. If possible I would like more information about Leon and Marie and possibly the names of their other children.

Thank you for your quick response. I have viewed these records a few times before but found too many discrepancies to be sure this was our relative. Thomas's death certificate lists his date of birth as 4 21 1849 and his mother's name as Mary so Denise is confusing. Also, as the family story goes, Thomas was the only child of Leon that was married. All other children were either priests or nuns.

I believe you when you say he was born on 4 21 1849 as per his death certificate. The date is the same, but the year is different. Probably the family member who gave the information, tought he was younger.

Just found another mariage from this family. You wrote that the family history said that Thomas was the only one who got married ? maybe it's another family ? who Thomas married ? I don't find his mariage.

Mariage of Philemon and Appoline Quenvillon https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-24154-54153-80...

I found Thomas's marriage on Family Search under Thomas Charwin. Married in Muskegon Michigan on Apr 13, 1874, to Delphina Lambert. Does not show either parents names. I sent an email to St Marys Church to ask if they have any record of parents names. I am waiting for a response.

I found the 1842 Census. At first, the word before his name looks like "reprinting". But, his house is vacant and he is absent at the time of the Census. So could it be "Reporting Leon Chauvin" ?

The enumerator wrote the were 2 in the family. But he got married in 1831 and had already 3 children by 1842.

Hear is the death certificate for Thomas Shovein. Thomas changed the spelling of his name after his father passed away to spite him for leaving most of his money to the church (since all other children were priests or nuns). So, Thomas will be either Chauvin or Shovein but Leon should be Chauvin. Also, I am sending a copy of a land grant that we know nothing about. Do not know what year it is for but Thomas had a son named Philip, b. 1887, or maybe a brother? Thomas lived mostly in Minnesota and possibly in Canada again around 1906.

Thanks for the death certificate. Surprising that Thomas decided to live far away from his family.

So far I found 10 children for this couple. Victorine and Edouard died at a young age, 6 were married, I found a mariage for Tharsile also, 2 of them could have been nuns, I'm probably missing some betwee the years 1840 and 1847.

I found Sophie, living with nuns, but not sure, the date of birth is not exact http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census/ViewFrame.jsp?id=27...

Probably, the only one with who your ancestors keep in touch with were the nuns. So this could explain why the family said they were all nuns or priests.

Concerning the land grant, because it's in Western Ontario, I think it's another Thomas Chauvin. While researching yours, I found one leaving in Pointe aux roches, West Ontario.
