Hi. Looking for information on this family, especially the parents of either of these. their children were Moses, Melissa, Emma(Emily), John, Frank, Thomas, Joseph, George, William, Sydney and Ida. Would love any dates you might have. I have a book entitled "Pioneers of the Upper Ottawa" with info about pioneers in South Hull and Alymer and am willing to do lookups. Thanks, Shelley

Hi there,

I have a Emma Bryant who was born in Onslow, Quebec on June 10, 1861; would this fit in with your Emma/Emily Bryant? The names of the sons that you listed are the same as the ones I have in my Bryant line.

My Emily Bryant was born in England in 1837. Her daughter Emma/Emily Mearon/Miron was born around 1859. I wonder if my EB had a brother who named a daughter after his sister?

It's possible. My ancestor George Bryant was born 1831 in England. His brother John Bryant was born 1831 in England too. They both ended up living in Pontiac Quebec (although George was married in 1855 to Rachel McClum in Alymer and then sometime between then and 1881 they moved to Quyon, Onslow twnsp, Pontiac.
I've listed the names of George and John's children to see if there are any similarities.
Thomas, George M., Dryden Smith, Mary Ann R., William Samuel, John James and Arthur

Hello,
I'm working on a hunch looking at George Bryant, Emily's father. I see that in 1841 census he was working as a butcher and living with Dryden Smith & his wife Mary Ann. Dryden was also a butcher, with George likely his apprentice. Both of them say born in England. George & his wife Rachel named one of their sons Dryden Smith Bryant and there was also a daughter named Mary Ann Bryant. So I figure that either George was eternally grateful for Dryden's assistance in apprenticing him or George & Dryden may be related. I'm trying to find out where George was born in England. Hoping you can help. Did you check the obits George as I see that in 1881 Rachel is a widow. Do you have the cemetery information. Dryden's gravestone says he comes from Buckinghamshire England. Hope you can help. Thanks, June

Hi June,

I can help, I have a bit more information but the problem is I haven't worked on my genealogy in a few years (life just got busy)! So all my records are in boxes, so I'll give you what I remember.

The Briant's did in fact come from Buckinghamshire, Padbury to be exact. I took a year of and travelled in 2004/2005 and visited there. It's a small hamlet with all original houses from the 16th and 17th century with all the thatched roofs. I was able to look at the original census I believe for 1841/1851 which listed the family.

I would love to hear more about your connection and the information that you've gather on the descends of George and Rachel Bryant. Do you have any information on Rachel's ancestory? I haven't been able to research that line yet.

In the new year, not likely until February when life settles a bit I'll go through my boxes and email you some pics and documents that I have.

Hello again.
I haven't done any research on Georges descendants yet as I'm focussing on establishing a relationship between George Briant/Bryant & Dryden Smith. Once that's confirmed I'll start on the descendants. Now I know that their both from Buckinghamshire, that information will be useful. I've searched the 1841 census on Ancestry but can't find George in 1841 in Buckinghamshire so would be happy to have more details about your findings. With regard to Rachel McCrum, I haven't done any research either but Dryden Smith's wife was Mary Ann McCrum so it is likely that the McCrums were sisters. I'll wait to hear from you in the new year. Best wishes for the New Year! Regards, June

I was confused earlier, I didn't realize that you're looking at Dryden Bryant as a possible sibling to George Bryant, now it all makes sense. I thought your were one of the descendants to Dryden Smith Bryant, son of George Bryant. Anyways now that it's clear as mud! I have info on the descendants of George and Rachel, especially my direct line which is from Thomas, George's son. You can view the famimly tree on-line at rootsweb. It's been a while since I've updated the information but it shows the lineage.

I can tell you that George and Rachel Bryant/Briant (In England it was spelt with the "i" and then changed at some point in Canada with the "y"). They lived in a house in Quyon, Onslow Township, Pontiac County, Quebec, where all the children were born. The area is mostly farmland, and the house sits on a very large plot, not sure how many acres but the house is still standing in it's original state (I have a picture I could send if you give me your email). I'm disappointed that I can't even find my computer with my tree on it or I could give you more info but hopefully that will turn up soon.

You can find the gravestones for some of the family in the St. John's Anglican Church and Cemetery in Quyon, Onslow Township, Pontiac County, Quebec. You can view them on-line at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~snaylor/St...

take care,
lynn.

Hi Megan,

Well, I'll try to be clearer.

Dryden Smith of Aylmer is the brother of my gg-grandfather Thomas Smith. I see in the 1851 census that George Bryant was living with Dryden Smith & family as an apprentice butcher. I just found that George named one of his sons Dryden Smith Bryant. So I am trying to establish if there is a family tie between George Bryant and Dryden Smith. Knowing they are both from Buckinghamshire leans toward the possibility as does the same religion (in the 1851 census). How do you know that George Briant/Bryant is from Buckinghamshire? I can't find him in the 1841 census.

My main focus is on establishing a family relationship between Dryden & George at this point, which will be very helpful in assisting me in researching my Smith line. Also, if I can confirm a connection, I'll be doing some research on the Bryant line too!

Regards, June

Moses was my great Grand father and George was my Grand
Father. The name changed again out west to Mearon then Meron. My Father George Wilfred Meron was supposed to be named Sydney after his Uncle.
