Hi Ken,
I am wondering if there was a sister Elizabeth McKune (b. about 1804 in Ireland) who fits into the family of John and Sabina McKune. The reason I am asking is that my ancestor Eliza Jane Hodgins had an older sister Sabina/Sebina, who married John Gardiner Boyd. The name Sabina is found in the McKune family. I am investigating the possibility that Elizabeth McKune is the mother to my ancestor Eliza Jane. Thanks you.

Yes, I have a lot of information about this family. She married Allan Charles McMillan, who was the son of John Ban McMillan and Maria Spooner, my great grand-aunt. 1) Magazine Explodes. Trees and Houses Leveled For Miles around Hull, Canada. Ottawa, Ont

Five tons of an explosive in a magazine exploded at the works of the General Explosives Company, near Hull, and fifteen persons were killed and scores were injured. Many of the victims had formed part of a crowd at a ball game and persisted in watching the fire at the works after having been warned of the peril if the big magazine exploded. Everything within a radius of a mile and a- half of the works was torn and shattered. Giant trees were snapped off close to the earth, barns and houses were converted into kindling wood. Many small houses were wrecked in Hull and larger buildings were damaged, while in Ottawa, four miles away, the Government and other buildings were, shaken and many wlndows were smashed. The known dead are: 1) Robert Agh, sixty-three years old; 2) Horace Anderson; 3) Joseph Bédard, 4) Patrick (printing error: "John") Blanchfield, struck by a stone as he was sitting on the doorstep of his home surrounded by hls family; 5) Rosalie Carriere and 6) Yolande Carriere (sisters), struck by a stone which came through the roof of their house; 7) Antoine Cervante, twelve years old; 8) Theodore Gagne; 9) Leonard Jardine, badly crushed; 10) Ferdinand Laurin three years old; 11) Albert Leblanc; 12) Louis McCann, a boy, struck by a big stone; 13) William Sabairin, twenty-four years old; 14) Unidentified Boy (perhaps Fabien Last Name unknown who was decapitated), and 15) Unidentified Girl, found together and too badly crushed to be recognized.

(NOTE: Newspaper Error.Some newspapers erroneously published Patrick Blanchfield's name as John Blanchfield.)

2) 15 Dead and 50 Injured in General Explosives Co. Explosion on Sunday, May 8, 1910

An explosion which late this afternoon wrecked the plant of the General Explosives company of Canada, situated a mile from Hull, Quebec, and four miles from this city, killed between 10 and 15 persons (NOTE: 15 was the final count) and injured scores of others. The force of the explosion was terrifying. The country for miles around was laid waste and may small dwellings in the city of Hull, on the side nearest the scene of the explosion, were flattened to the ground. A baseball game was in progress a short distance from the powder works about 6 o’clock in the evening. The teams were playing the last inning and when a fire was seen in one of the small buildings of the powder plant the crowd began to swarm up the hill to get a better view of the blaze. Warning of the danger came to the onlookers in two minor explosions soon after the fire got under way. A shower of sparks and fragments of the wrecked building fell among the spectators and there was a scurrying out of what was considered the danger zone. Some men in the crowd, aware of the danger when the main magazine was reached, pleaded with the crowd to go still further back and many of them heeded the warning. Others, apparently enjoying the element of danger in the spectacle, stood within 1000 yards of the burning buildings. They were kept on the qui vive by detonations which sent showers of burning brands in all directions. The baseball game broke up and the remainder of the spectators and the players rushed to join the crowd at the fire. It was then the main magazine exploded. There were two stunning detonations. Everything within a radius of a mile and a half was torn and shattered. Giant trees were snapped off close to the earth, barns and dwellings were converted into kindling wood and even in Ottawa, four miles from the scene hundreds of plate glass windows were broken.The scene where the crowd from the ball field stood resembled a battlefield. Headless, armless and legless bodies were lying about among scores of unconscious forms. To the few who retained a flicker of consciousness it appeared as though more than a hundred had been killed. The silence which followed the final death-dealing blast was more terrifying than the cries and moans which came with a return to consciousness of the badly injured. The terrific shock brought thousands of terror stricken people into the streets of Hull. Some thought it was an earthquake, while others cried out that the comet has struck the earth. Hundreds of chimneys were toppled over and there is scarcely a whole pane of glass left in the northeastern section of the city. The first call for aid from the hospitals and the police came from the section of the city nearest the magazine. There it was found that fully 40 small frame dwellings had been shattered and many injured people were imprisoned in the wreckage. The police and fire departments were joined by scores of volunteers in the work of rescue. It was fully an hour and a half after the explosion that word came into the city of the disaster near the powder works. Ambulances and automobiles were rushed to the scene and the frightfully injured were carried to the local hospitals until there was room for no more and then they were brought across the river to this city. At 10 o’clock the police estimate the number of dead at fifteen and the injured at fifty. In this city, four miles from the scene of the explosion, the terror it inspired was scarcely less than that at Hull. The earth trembled, buildings shook and hundreds of windows were shattered. The great cloud of smoke which mounted into a column over Hull quickly indicated the true cause of the terrifying shock. Rideau hall, the official home of Earl Grey, and the buildings on Parliament Hill caught the full force of the explosion, being two miles nearer the powder plant than the main section of the city. Every window on one side of Rideau hall was blown out and two great stone chimneys toppled over. The parliament buildings also were damaged badly. Rideau hall is still occupied by Earl Grey and his family. The whole vice regal establishment fled panic stricken to the street. They were soon assured that there was no further damage. As soon as Earl Grey learned the extent of the disaster he ordered a detachment of troops sent across the river to help the authorities. The building in which the main explosion occurred was built of solid stone, the walls being two feet thick. Fragments of stone weighing up to a half ton were shot through the air for a quarter of a mile, shattering the frame houses of working men which run to within an eighth of a mile of the factory. In a home just north of the works two sisters named Carrier, 17 and 19 years, were killed while sitting at the supper table. John Blanchfield was sitting with his wife in the door of his home when a fragment of rock snuffed out his life, but left her unharmed. The head of a lad named Fabien was cut clean from his body. Louis McCann, a laborer, was crushed by a falling fragment. He was started for an Ottawa hospital in an automobile, but when it was seen that he was dying the car was stopped in front of the Roman Catholic cathedral. There, standing on the steps, a priest administered the last sacrament a few moments before McCann died. A little boy and girl, found lying together, crushed beyond recognition, have not so far been identified. The electric light works was disabled and the city of Hull left in darkness, adding to the confusion and the difficulty of locating victims. The Ottawa hospitals are crowded with injured and it is almost certain that some of these are so badly hurt that the list of fatalities will grow. Fantastique! Donc, nous sommes cousins! Oui, mon arrière-grandmère est Domitilde Larente et la soeur d'Evariste. J'ai une photo de Domitilde. Je vous l'envoie. Domitilde et Calixte Sarrazin ont eu 7 enfants. Ma grand-mère Emilie (Emilia) Sarrazin a une soeur jumelle née Julie qui est devenue plus tard Eugénie; Marie Corrine (1884-1894); Emile (1886-1948) Marie Albertine (1888-1889); Albertine (1891-1984) et sa soeur jumelle morte le jour de sa naissance (1891-1891).
Dans mon arbre généalogique sur Ancestry pour Evariste Larente (1864-1941) et son épouse Agnès Lévina Renaud, j'ai trouvé 9 enfants mais je n'ai pas encore chercher leur date de mort où s'ils s'étaient mariées. J'ai Elisabeth, David (votre ancêtre), Corinne, Albertina, Aimé ou Ainé, Geneviève, Georges, Olive et Joseph Hodie.

J'ai beaucoup de notes sur François Leblanc et ses trois épouses.

J'ai trouvé tous les enfants de Marguerite Brazeau et François Leblanc. J'ai tous leurs 8 enfants avec leur acte de baptême.
Marguerite Brazeau est morte le 18 septembre, 1804 à St-Benoit.

J'ai aussi trouvé 8 enfants de Josephe Charlebois et François Leblanc et j'ai trouvé le mariage de 5 de leurs enfants: Eustache, Julien, Hyacinthe, Joseph & Louis. Les autres que j'ai trouvé sont Jean-Baptiste (1806-1822), Angèle (1812-1835), Catherine (1824-1824). Je chercherai les autres. Josephe Charlebois est morte le 29 janvier, 1834 à Ste-Scholastique. Je voulais vous envoyer une fiche sur les enfants de Josephe Charlebois et François Leblanc mais comme c'est en format PDF, j'ai reçu un message qui dit qu'on ne peut pas envoyer des fiches en format PDF. J'ai dû l'enlever. Mais, si vous la désirez, dites-le-moi et je vous donnerai mon adresse de courriel et je pourrai vous l'envoyer de cette manière.

La troisième épouse de François Leblanc est Clémence Légaré. Leur mariage a eu lieu le 25 janvier, 1836 à Ste-Thérèse-D'Avila-de-Blainville, Ste-Thérèse. Ils n'ont pas eu d'enfants.

J'ai trouvé tous les enfants de Judith Leblanc et Antoine Demers et tous les enfants d'Henriette Demers & Isaac Vinet dit Larente. Je regarde toujours les parrains et marraines dans les actes de baptême. Cela me donne beaucoup d'information.

J'ai maintenant un arbre généalogique de 20,000 personnes sur Ancestry. Et j'ai depuis ces messages trouvé l'acte de marriage d'Henriette Demers et Isaac Vinet Larente. Ils se sont mariés le 22 novembre, 1847 à L'Ile-Bizard. Les parents d'Henriette Demers sont Judith Leblanc (née fille naturelle) et Antoine Demers, fils d'Antoine Demers et Marie Suzanne Desmoulins Lagiroflée.

Antoine Demers et Judith (dans son acte de mariage ou Angélique Leblanc, dans l'acte de marriage de sa fille Henriette) ont eu deux filles nommées Henriette Demers, une née en 1823 (Lucie Henriette) et Henriette Demers née en 1827 qui a épousé Isaac Vinet dit Larente.

Jacinthe Labrosse n'est pas la mère d'Henriette Demers. C'est Judith Leblanc qui est née fille naturelle. J'ai son acte de marriage avec Antoine Demers dans lequel apparaît le nom du témoin François Leblanc. Je crois avoir trouvé la famille Leblanc à qui Judith appartient mais je ne saurai peut–être jamais qui a été sa mère. Mais, je continue mes recherches. Je n'ai pas trouvé l'acte de baptême de Judith ou Angélique Leblanc ou son acte de sépulture ou l'acte de sépulture de son époux Antoine Demers. J'ai fait faire mon ADN sur Family Tree pour essayer de savoir qui était la mère de Judith ou Angélique Leblanc et j'attends un jour qu'une dame qui a aussi fait faire son ADN maternel pourra éclaircir ce mystère. Contactez-moi si vous avez trouvé quelque chose de nouveau et je peux vous aider si vous avez besoin de documents et d'informations sur cette famille.

Hello,

I desperately need help with two areas of my research.

My grandmother was adopted, however, I do know almost all the information on her biological mother's side of the family. What I can't find is any information on her biological fathers side. All I have is a name, photo and what his family did for a living. I know it's not much to go on, but do you think there's anything that can be found?

The other problem I'm having is finding information on one of her uncles. The story is that he was shot in 1936 and I've been able to find information on his burial but that's it. I'm hoping there's information about how he was shot.

Mallette, Robineau

This is a photo of Leda Mallette (Robineau) and friends (or family ?). My guess is that she is about 20 years old in this picture. Probably shortly after she got married to Leonel Robineau in 1914. Could be a picture at her "Bachelorette" lol.

Leda and Leonel lived out their lives in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario. None of my Sturgeon Falls contacts (including some Mallette's) recognize Leda or any other of the women in the attached picture.

I have concluded that the picture was taken just before she would have moved to Sturgeon from the Ripon area of Quebec.

Are their any Mallette's from the Ripon/Gatineau area who recognize these women. By the way, Leda is the middle person in the bottom row.

Did I reply to you before? Marie is my grandmothers sister. She married Frank Jacques and lived in Colorado. I have tried to research this line, but there are more than one family. Her parents are (John) Adam Collett/Collet and Christine Elgess/Graber. She was widowed before 1882 and immigrated with her children from Germany to Missouri and remarried another Germ Immig. Michael Fuchs and d 1910 MO.

Je suis pas reliée à cette famille. Les défis m'attirent. Alors quand vous avez écrit que Gaspard avait signé Michaud, j'ai tout de suite regardé et j'ai trouvé le recensement de 1861. Et ensuite le reste.
Et si je devais pas aller travailler ce matin, je serais en train d'éplucher tous les registres de la région de Kamouraska pour tenter de retracer ces 2 enfants, Gaspard et Firmin. SVP tenez moi au courant du développement de cette recherche. Peut-être que vous pourriez demander de l'aide dans un forum de la région de Kamouraska pour ces 2 enfants ?
Belles photos de famille, Caron ou Michaud c'est du beau monde. J'adore les vieilles photos. Vous avez fait faire le scan à partir d'une photo de groupe ? bonne idée.

Je ne sais pas comment vous avez trouvé tout ça dans si peu de temps, ça me dépasse.
Ma lanterne commence à m`aider à voir plus clair dans ce mystère. Permettez-moi une question: Etes-vous une Caron d`origine pour vous intéresser à cette famille?
De mon côté je suis le petit-fils d`Israel fils de Gaspard. Mon père Léon était fils unique et je me souviens vaguement des tantes et oncle de mon père suivants Antonio, Anna et Mélina. Mélina demeurait à Lewiston Maine et elle venait faire son tour environ une fois par an à Ste-Hélène Kam.
Je possède une photo de Gaspard avec son épouse et tous ses enfants. Je vais essayer de vous l`annexer. J`espère que l`image sera assez claire. J`ai fait scanner les photos de ce cadre par un photographe professionnel et ma fille a un cadre semblable chez elle bien en vue quand on entre dans la maison.En tout cas Merci de toutes ces informations.

C'est possible qu'au mariage de Gaspard ce François soit décédé et que ce soit un des ses fils, François, qui lui a servi de père. Ça expliquerait qu'on lui attribue les 2 autres épouses ?

Adelaide Cloutier, une des filles de François Caron et Marie-Anne Cloutier a épousé Pascal Michaud. On les voit sur la même page de ce recensement, 1861. Il a 71 ans, elle a 33 ans et ils ont 2 jeunes enfants. Pascal Michaud était veuf de Marie Nadeau.

Au recensement de 1901, Gaspard Caron dit être né le 10 octobre 1849. Ça correspond avec les autres recensements. J'ai cherché pour trouvé la naissance de Fabien, né vers 1837 et Gaspard Michaud et je trouve pas.

Peut-être qu'avec ces informations d'autres pourront aider ou vous-mêmes trouver ces 2 enfants.

Merci beaucoup de votre réponse. Mon arrière grand-père Gaspard a porté le nom de Michaud sur le cetificat de baptême de Israel mon grand-père. Donc, je pense que l`adoption s`est faite d`une drôle de manière puisqu`il a changé de nom alors qu`il était le père d`un enfant...Bizarre toute cette hsitoire...

Merci beaucoup pour les "tips". J`ai eu la chance de recevoir la semaine dernière de ma soeur une copie du certificat de naissance de mon grand-père qui nommait Gaspard du nom de Michaud mais qui est devenu Caron par la suite. Donc il y a un cas d`adoption. Merci encore.

Si vous voulez trouvez qui sont les vrais parents de Gaspard, il faudrait faire la généalogie de tous les frères et soeurs de sont père (et mère) adoptif et voir si l'un deux serait décédé en laissant des enfants en bas âge. Il arrive que lorsqu'un veuf ou veuve se remarie, pour plusieurs raisons, ils placent les enfants dans la famille.
Aussi, qui sont ces Bérubé témoins au mariage ? Peut-être que Gaspard était un Bérubé ou fils naturel d'un ou d'une Bérubé ? et aurait par la suite pris le nom de son père adoptif ?
Il faudrait aussi vérifier les recenseements de 1851 et 1861 pour trouver avec qui il vivait.
Vous aurez peut-être plus de chance dans un forum sur la région de Kamouraska ou de la famille Caron.

Voici ce que j`ai sur votre ancêtre ; ces informations proviennent du livre dictionnaire généalogique des descendants de Laurent Levasseur 1666 2008 page 96 .livre publié par lassociation des Levasseur d`amérque.
Adèle Levasseur née 8 avril 1848 à L`Isle Verte.Rivière du loup.dcd le 9 aout ; sépulture le 10 aout 1908 à Sainte Hélène de Kamouraska P.Q. Elle a épousé GASPARD caron le 20 aot 1867 à Saint André de Kamouraska ;fils de Francois CAron et de Adèle Levesque . Adèle Levasseur ; ces parents sont Theophile Levasseur marié à Marie D`Amboise Bergeron. ; il y a aussi une photo de deux filles de Gapard Caron sur le site des cybers photos du musée du bas Saint Laurent .photo prise le 21/08/1910 ; il est possible de commander cette dernière photo en contactant le musée du bas Saint Laurent

Am I ever interested in more info. Frank and Johns sister, Anna Collett was my grandmother, who I never knew. I have found newspapers in Billings MT about the Colletts in Roundup. Broke my heart to see the sad stories about Mary (Franks wife) Colletts grandchildren. And the death of her husband which they say was either suicide or murder.

I'm related to the Colletts of Montana. Caspar Corder Collett (original owner of Casey's Golden Pheasant in Billings, MT) was the son of Frank Collett, and the grandson of John Adam Collett. He came from Missouri to Chestnut, Montana (near Bozeman, MT) with his father Frank in the year 1898 at the age of 2 years old. Casey eventually moved to Roundup, MT, then to Billings, MT, where he died in 1959.

Frank's brother John Collett also settled in the Chestnut area, eventually ending up in Livingston, MT.

Pourrais-tu donner le nom du notaire et la date du contrat de mariage et la date du mariage d'Oscar et Adele ? J'aimerais les consulter.

As tu trouvé l'acte de naissance d'Oscar ?

Il faut pas se fier aux arbres trouvés un peu partout, il faut toujours vérifier les informations avec les actes et recensements.

J`ai fait mon arbre généalogique, mais j`ai de la difficulté au niveau du père de Gaspard Caron marié à Adèle Levasseur à L`Isle-verte, Qc qui est soit François Caron marié à Adèle Lévesque nommé dans le contrat de mariage de Gaspard comme étant le père adoptif de Gaspard ou encore selon certains arbres généalogiques qui montrent que Edouard-Eloi Caron marié à Vitaline Pelletier est le père de Gaspard. Qui dit vrai???

My condolences on your mother's passing. There are no words that I can think of to express my sympathy to you and your family.

My connection to your mother and her family is through the Chuggs (my grandfather Philip came West to Alberta about 1908). I believe that Michael Chugg from the USA, a cousin of mine (actually a cousin of ours I guess I should say), was privleged enough to meet Sharon and some of her family. I know he was thrilled to see the cabin and reconnect with family.

At some point my husband and I will make a trip out east and hopefully be able to meet some distant family.

If you are ever in Calgary please let me know. We would welcome a visit and would be glad to have guests in our home.
