Morin family in Manawaki 1880's
My grandparents, William Hebert and Sarah McKinley, moved to Maniwaki from Cumberland, ON in the 1880's. Have my Hebert line well established. However, am interested in William's mother Rose/Rosalie/LaRose Morin who also had family connections in Maniwaki. Jayne A. Hebert

Re: Morin family in Manawaki 1880's
Jayne:
We have a Rose Alma MORIN in our family tree, born 1873. She was the 7th child of Louis MORIN and Julienne /unknown/. Louis MORIN was the son of Alexis MORIN (b. 1793) and Mary ROBICHAUD. This Alexis MORIN was the eldest of the children of Alexis MORIN and Mary GAGNON. Alexis Jr. had to suddenly assume responsibility for the family when they were orphaned in the cholera epidemic that swept through Bytown in 1831.
Here is an excerpt from "Aylmer: It's Heritage" by Diane Aldred: <quotation> "Alexis Morin Sr. came to Bytown with his family from St-Jean Port-Joli, Quebec, in 1831. Both he and his wife died very soon afterward from cholera, leaving thier eldest son, Alexis Jr., at the age of twenty-three, in charge of his younger brother and sisters.
The family moved to Aylmer where Alexis worked as a teamster. Charles, a younger brouther, worked for Charles Symmes who is said to have helped to keep the young family together by taking one of the youngest Morin children to live in his home." </quotation>
I realize that the MORIN surname has deep roots in this area and the province of Quebec; there are many MORINs in eastern Ontario and west Quebec. However, I have never encountered another Rose MORIN in my researches.
I myself am a descendent of Alexis MORIN through his son Charles and grand-daughter Marguerite MORIN (who married William IRISH).
Best regards, MIchael Ross Murphy (Ottawa Canada)

Re: Morin family in Manawaki 1880's
do you have the name John(Jean)Daniel Morin anywhere in your database. He was born in Maniwaki approx. 1881 + I can find no record of him as yet. He was my grandfather. A cousin has his marriage certificate. He married Annie Behan or Beahan in Ottawa around 1900.
I have looked in the Morin Association web page but can find little to go on.
Thanks,
Patty Anne

Re: Morin family in Manawaki 1880's
thank you very much for the information. I have no idea if your family has any connection to the Antoine Morin, my great grandfather. But I will keep your information until I can get to the archives.
I have received another query from "Jenny" in New York State asking about her family. Her great grandfather was Lawrence/Laurent morin. they lived in or around montcerf, maniwaki and montmagny.....Laurent married Margueritte Delphine LaCroix. My grandfather was born around that same area. His name was Jean/John Babtist Morin. He married Mathilde LaNoue from around same area.
If you have any information about this group I would appreciate hearing about it and I will pass it on.
