St Polycarpe lookups - Fraser, Forbes
I am researching a family in Glengarry but an unable to locate an early marriage or early birth. Is it possible to get a lookup of information in the early records of St Polycarpe?
I am looking for marriage ca 1834 of Alexander Fraser and Jennet Forbes. Also, looking for birth/baptism of first daughter Janet ca 1835.
Thanks for any assistance. Joan

Re: St Polycarpe lookups - Fraser, Forbes
Joan, I did a search of this board looking for Forbes in Coteau-du-Lac in Vaudreuil and yours was the lonely result. You didn't get a response, so I checked a Soulanges RC marriage book for of Alex Fraser and Jennet Forbes at St. Polycarpe and found no listing. Do the names John Forbes (d 1839), his wife Nancy MacDonald (d 1848, age 86) and their children Christina (d 1847, age 47), or Donald (d 1860) mean anything to you? Also to any of the other readers of this board. Pete

Re: St Polycarpe lookups - Fraser, Forbes
Thanks for the lookup, Pete. Unfortunately, I have no record of my FRASER/FORBES family before May 1836 which is baptism of their son Angus at St Raphael's in Glengarry. I have not found any record of marriage of Alexander Fraser (died May 4, 1865, aged 60 yrs, Native of "Ferness", Scotland) or his wife Jennet Forbes (bn ca 1807-8 Scotland) which I believe occurred about 1834.
The May 1836 record states Alexander Fraser was "day labourer on Colonel Fraser's land" (and so I assume he was also part of the militia). The record is baptism of son Angus and sponsors were Archibald Chisholm and Mary MacDonald. Duncan MacPherson and Mary MacDonell were sponsors at the baptisms of the other 4 children, so there is a MacDonald connection somewhere. We also connect to McRaes and to McGillis-McRae through children's marriages. This McGillis-McRae family was in Soulanges ca 1825-26 so that is why I wished to check there for my Frasers. I also have references to Lancaster in Glengarry County although from 1836-1849 the family actually resided in some capacity on Col Fraser's land in Charlottenburg.
I have found no connection to earlier or extended family for either Alexander or Jennet (Forbes) Fraser, so although our families may be related in some way, I have no information to support that. My family left Glengarry County area ca 1850 and settled in Kirkfield, Victoria County, Ontario.
I would be interested in any other information you may have on your Forbes family.

Re: St Polycarpe lookups - Fraser, Forbes
I have a John Forbes married to Mary Ann MacDonald. The dates match, and they lived in Vaudreuil. I don't have those children listed, but they had a large family and I know what I have is incomplete.
I would be happy to compare notes.
This is a very interesting family.
