Anne,
I have been conducting research on my wife's family for some time now, and I believe she is descended from Potter Hazard [1825-1901] (son of Robert Hazard Jr. and Phoebe Wing) and Elizabeth Grimble [1835-1911]. I'm very interested in any additional information you may have on the Hazards, and what your sources are. I have not been able to trace beyond Robert Hazard Sr. and Mary Slokum either. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you for your time,
Paul J. Mohler

Hello, I just found this post of yours from 2007, so am not holding my breath that you're still on Ancestry, but just in case (!) -- I am a descendant of the Francois Viau dit Lesperance and Sophie Lavigne you wrote about, through their daughter, Helen Hope (the family changed the name to Hope in or before settling in Troy), and her daughter, Helen Male (my great grandmother). I've had next to no luck in tracing "Frank's" family beyond him -- I speak/read French, but the few records i've found (Drouin Collection) aren't exactly right... I wondered if, in the many years since your post, you found any information about this family in Canada? Thanks a lot, Debbie Doran Mercier (Norwalk, CT)

Hi,
I'm not sure if this will help but I grew up in a small town very close to Ste. Sabine and although we had a regional newspaper (The Sherbrooke Record), everyone read the Montreal Star (now defunct) and the Montreal Gazette and usually placed obituaries in either of these. Now, judging by your ancestor's name, I take it he was French so am not too sure about local French papers - only know of the Journal de Montreal but it may not have been around in 1928. I also found when researching obituaries for my ancestors, obituaries weren't published until the 1940's.

What you might want to do is contact the Ste. Sabine Library where they might be able to help you out at
http://ste-sabine.qc.ca/indexFr.asp?numero=34

Good luck!
Sue

Robert Hazard (Sr), his wife Mary Slokum and their son, Potter, are buried in a tiny graveyard in a field on Russell Road, East Dunham, Qc, on their original homestead land. They died one day apart in 1836 (Dec. 19th and 20th respectively). The graveyard is maintained by the Missisquoi Historical Society. Robert Hazard Jr and his wife Phoebe Wing are buried in the All Saints Anglican Cemetery in the village of Dunham, as are their children Robert (3rd) and Sarah Hazard Selby. I know that Robert Jr also had a son named after his brother, Potter, but don't have info this younger Potter.

Robert Sr and Mary had 3 other children who all married siblings of the Thomas family of Rhode Island before emigrating all together to this area of Canada: Desire Hazard m Peleg Thomas, Thomas Hazard m. Deborah Thomas, Elizabeth Hazard m. Jeffrey Thomas. I believe that Potter Sr married very late in life to Lucy Malvina Clark - 35 yrs his junior. She is buried in the Abbot's Corner Cemetery.

The name Potter seems to originate from a Martha Potter, first wife of Thomas
Hazard of Rhode Island - her death sometime before 1675, as that is the year he remarried to Martha Sheriff.

I guided graveyard tours for the MHS (mentioned above) back in the early 2000's. The Hazard was one of the most interesting albeit one of the smallest.
Anne

I have just bought a house in Henryville Quebec and It seams that it was at one time owned by Issac Hogle, according to what I have found he was a justice of the peace and the captain of the militia. If any one has any pictures of him or the house, I would love to see them. We will be trying to renovate the house.
The only picture I have of the house is from the early 1900's when it was owned by J.A Dupuis and run as a hotel.

I am looking for the parents of Calvin Dean (1821-1877). He lived in the Clarenceville, Quebec area. I would like to find out who his parents were.I believe Calvin Dean was married to Marietta Branch? Bissell? 7 April 1842. He married Martha Eliza Sawyer 24 Dec 1848. They had a daughter, Ellen Dean (1850-1876) wife of Levi Mandigo. Calvin Dean was married to Cecelia Drew (1831-1902) in Clarenceville, Quebec in 1857.

i'm seeing incest here. check this out. Almira abel, the one that married Warren w. Bowen can not be henry w abel's and sarah blanchards daughter like the marriage certificate said. henry w abel was born in 1833. at the time of almira's and warren w. bowens marriage on the 22 aug 1869 it was almira's 2nd marriage and she was already 37 years old.this is all stated in the marriage cirtificate. that would mean that she was born in approximately 1832. the fact that almira was born in 1832 and henry w. abel was born in 1833, means that henry w. abel can not possibly be her father. sarah blanchard was born in 1840, so that can not be her mother. This means that she lied on the marriage certificate. the only other almira abel born in appr 1830 in brome quebec would be the one that married darius huntley on 23 apr 1846. darius huntley was warren w. bowens grandson and almira's grandson. this means almira, the daughter of susan sargent and henry abel jr. married her own grandson. can somebody else look into this too, and get back to me. there might be something i'm missing. At least i hope there is, because this is sick.

Jacobs family of Cowansville/Sweetsburg

I am trying to find any information on Elmira (Almira, Mira)Jacobs, born Sweetsburg, Quebec, circa 1878. She married Seneca Page Wilkinson in 1894 in Richford, Vermont, parents Joseph and Mary, according to the papers filed at the Justice of the peace there. I have seen her last name as both Jacob, and Jacobs. She died in 1932 on July 31st and was buried at Iron Hill. The name on the death record is Admira Wilkinson, but this is the right person as she is listed as the wife of S. Page Wilkinson, my great-grandfather.

Does anyone recognize this family??

There is a census record of a family, living in the area in the 1880's, 90's and onward with a "Mira" listed with the right birth date, but mother's name is listed as Emily. Not entirely convinced it's the right family. No trace of a birth record for the names Elmira, Almira, or Mira Jacob or Jacobs.

This site was given to the Methodist Church by John Bowker Sr.

The said Rockwood Cemetery is Kirkwood Cemetery on Ch.
Thanks Gilbert,

I did not explain myself properly, sorry. I was looking for the Higgins cemetery which I know believe to be at 1034 Rue Principale hidden behind the trees. I gather there is a small path to the cemetery.

Regards.....Dan

My ancestor Edoaurd Boudreau died on 3 Sept. 1928 in Ste Sabine. His family has been a "brick wall" in my genealogy for over 20 years! I recently located the death record, but now I can't locate a newspaper that covered that area anywhere! Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! It would be a home run!

Lawrence and Maurice Sr. are brothers. So I guess Barb and I are second cousins, not her and my mom first cousins. Two of my grandparents are the youngest kids in their families, and two are the youngest out of their siblings who have kids. I have second cousins who were born before my parents, so it's hard to remember who's first or second, or second x times removed.

Yes- I'm Lawrence's granddaughter (Lawrence and Maurice are brothers). My mom is Janet. While I worked some on Nicea's family, I saw they were in Seymour too. I asked my mom if she remembered the last name Knox. It was vaguely familiar to her, but she wasn't sure. My personal email is jemada654@yahoo.com if you want to ask me some specific questions. I've been adding all of the Lawrence Barclay family's important dates as they happen, so it's accurate.

Hi--I had sent you a message in April I believe it was. Nicea (Eliza's (Benedict, Brookshire) sister) was my gg grandmother. I have detailed files on the decendancy (sp?) of George Shepherd (spelling of this was very exact in records) and Margaret Bull, my ggg grand parents. I'm 4th cousins with Barb Schaefer's late dad, Maurice Barclay, Jr. George Shepherd and family moved to Milwaukee from East Farmham, Canada, in about 1838 where he had a dry goods store that failed, and ended up farming in Vernon Twp, Waukesha Co., then to Town of Osborn, Outagamie Co. in the 1850's I believe it was. Which child of Eliza and David Benedict do you descend from? I have a few holes in that line.

Vern Knox
Wisconsin

Their daughter Eliza is my 3g grandmother. Their other children are Allan, Swewll, Sally, and Nicea. They moved to Wisconsin, USA sometime between 1830's - 1860. The 1860 census shows them in Wisconsin.

Hello, I'm a grandson of Arthur Francis Quebec (who's now in his 70s, not sure what year he was born).
He's one of 5 sons(the others: Richard, Robert, Alan and Edward).
Their father was Arthur Francis Quebec Sr.
Arthur Sr. married Alice Methot (born somewhere in Canada I believe). I think Arthur Sr. was either born in Canada or Boston, and I think I've heard that his mother's maiden name was MacArthur. Arthur Sr. spent most (if not, all) of his life in Boston and he died either before I was born or when I was a baby (I was born in 1981). We had always been told that the surname was originally (Indian) Quee-bek and was later changed to match the province. I'm finding now that the Lavallee boys may have changed it from Lavallee to Quebec.

Have been working this line from NY to MI, but am having trouble tracing the family back to Quebec/France. Any help would be appreciated. Main interest is in Elizabeth, daughter of Ambrose Bullard and Elizabeth Hibbard.
ok.3cheers@yahoo.com

I am looking for descendants of Alfred and Fanny Robinson who moved to Abercorn in the 1890s & was there through the 1911 census. He is the son of Amos and Mary Ann (Pontin) Robinson of England. They had eight children. I have some photographs to share.

I have the death record for Jonathan and the record states Sophia Gorham his wife was a witness, and another line says Sophia Gorham made her mark, as she didn't know how to write. It doesn't ref to Wait/Waite anywhere in the burial record of 3 Jul 1825 (d. 2 July).
