Rosanna/Rosina Davis

Classification: Query
Surnames: Humphrey, Dunbar, Davis
I am looking for information on a woman by the name of Rosanna or Rosina Davis. She was born on 11 Aug 1819 in Saint-Armand, Missisquoi, Quebec. She married Nicholas Humphrey (1817-1887) in about 1840. Together they had nine children and lived in New York and Wisconsin. She died in November 1902.

The problem that comes up is that she is a bit of a shady character when it comes to tracking down reliable information. According to the U.S. census records and her grave stone, her name is Rosina. However, her obituary in the local newspaper has her listed as Rosanna. Depending on the census record you look at, her birth location is listed as Vermont, New York, or Canada. Her obituary lists her birth place as Dunham, Canada. Her cemetery records list it as "St. Arman, French Canada".

As for her parents, they seem to be a bit of a mystery too. From my research, I have found no evidence of their names. The census records vary on the place of Rosanna/sina's parents, with some listing Vermont and France as their birthplace. According to family lore and the 'research' of a family member that has often been proven wrong, it is suspected that she may have been born with the last name Dunbar and was later adopted by the Davis family. The only thing that may support this theory is that one of her sons has the middle name of Dunbar.
