Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction regarding attempting to locate an obituary from 1928 in Ste Sabine? My ancestor Edoaurd Boudreau died on 3 Sept. 1928 in Ste Sabine. His family has been a "brick wall" in my genealogy for over 20 years! I recently located the death record, but now I can't locate a newspaper that covered that area anywhere! Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! It would be a home run!

Hi,
I'm not sure if this will help but I grew up in a small town very close to Ste. Sabine and although we had a regional newspaper (The Sherbrooke Record), everyone read the Montreal Star (now defunct) and the Montreal Gazette and usually placed obituaries in either of these. Now, judging by your ancestor's name, I take it he was French so am not too sure about local French papers - only know of the Journal de Montreal but it may not have been around in 1928. I also found when researching obituaries for my ancestors, obituaries weren't published until the 1940's.

What you might want to do is contact the Ste. Sabine Library where they might be able to help you out at

Good luck!

Sainte-Sabine is a very small village near Farnham, Quebec province.
There is 2 catholic cimeteries. The old one is behind the old village school (prior to 1930) and the new one is on "chemin de la gare" road near the road 235. The church is closed, all registers should be located at Saint-Romuald Catholic church in Farnham, Qc.
For a newspaper, try the "Canada Francais" from St-Jean or the historical society of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Qc (which I am a member)

Marriages of Missiquoi County shows an Edouard Boudreau marrying Georgette Fournier on 1/28/1890. His parents were Pierre Boudreau and Philomene Boissoneault. This is in Stanbridge , right next to St. Sabine. St. Sabine was not established until 1888.

Another Edouard shows a marriage to Angelina Galipeau on 4/25/1911 in Pike River. His parents Jean-Baptiste Boudreau and Delia Demers.

Finally in Farnham, an Edouard Boudreau married Mederise Robert on 1/22/1878. His parents were Jacques Boudreau and Sophie Richard.

If you have his wife's name then you may break through that wall.
