Have you read the notes on the "Gleaner" newspaper site...I just re-read 1887 to 1889 and there are notes about Steel's in those years.
Good Luck.

Seems that Anne Steele is my wifes great grandmother. We know that John Blackwood, born June 3rd 1837 - died January 15th 1913 was married to Anne Steele, born about 1839, and died 1918.
On the Blackwood side I know there are studies, but things have stopped with Anne Steele.
I have found an Anne Steele, born Nov 26th 1838, bapt February 12th 1839. She is the daughter of William Steele and wife Nancy.
Interested in exchanging information???
Ps. My wife comes from BC, Canada, some Blackwoods moved from Quebec tol BC around 1900.

Hi:
My Great Grand Uncle John Blackwood (22 June 1837-15 Jan 1913) married Anne Steel and they had 10 children. Anne Steel was born 26 Nov 1838 in Franklin Center & died 26 July 1918 in Glengarry, Martintown, Ontario. Her parents were William H. Steel born 1799 in Scotland and died 1847 in Russelltown, Quebec, & Nancy Ann Simpson born 1812 in England and died 1842 in Russelltown.
They (William & Nancy) had:
John R. Steel born 1820 in Scotland & died 14 May 1897 in Helena, Montana.
Major George I. Steel born 13 Jan. 1837 in Jamestown, Quebec and died 21 Jan 1916 in Spokane, Washington. George married Mary Last Calf Little Bear Lame Bull born 1835 in Blackfeet, Glacier, Montana and died 26 Mar. 1919 in Browning, Glacier, Montana. They had 3 children. George then married Eva Treadway and had another child & then married Annie Maud Dyas and had 3 more children.
James Steel born 23 Mar 1840 in Franklin Center and died after 1901 in Ontario. He lived with his sister Anne Steel and her husband John Blackwood and worked as a domestic.

Hope this helps..........
