Jean-Bte Bertrand m Adélaïde Menard, La Prairie, QC
My French ancestors as follows: Grandparents: Delphine Couture and Nicholas Meistrell m: Rooks Co Ks. 1890 Great grandparents: Francois Xavier Couture and Marceline Bertrand m: Feb 23, 1846 in LaPrairie Canada. The above 1846 marriage is taken from the Loiselle records and says that Marceline's parents were J.B. Bertrand and Adelaide Menard.
Great grandparents moved into Kankakee County Illinois in about 1855 and then in the 1880's moved on to Rooks County Ks. They had a large family. They lived the rest of their lives in that county.

My grandmother was Febeolia Betrand - whose father was Treffle Bertrand- who had a sister Marceline and the same parents- JB and Adelaide Bertrand. I am looking for information on Febeolia's relatives.
I just got an email from a Christine about the Bertrands. Are you Teresa? Do you know if Febeolia had any brothers or sisters? Or who her mother was? (treffle's wife).
Thanks, Mary

My computer is down right now and so I am writing this from a computer lab that I belong to and so I do not have my info in front of me. Will get back to you as soon as I can. Info on the internet says, I believe, that there was a sister of Marceline named Sophia that ended up in Kankakee also. I have ordered the Loiselle records for Bertrands in Quebec and should have it soon at my local FHC. Teresa

thanks. for your help. I did some more investigating today and I think there was also a sister name Elizabeth. I am trying to also find out some information on the wife of Treffle who was Adeline or Adaline Longtine.

Re: Bertrand, Montreal, QC
I had a chance last evening to search some of the Loiselle marriage records for Quebec from a film at our local FHC. J. B. Bertrand married Adelaide Menard on Aug 7, 1821 in La Prairie. His parents were Simon Bertrand and Josephte Dassylva Portugais. (not sure what the Portugais means). Her parents were Pierre Menard an Louise Raymond. It appears that he was also married to Rose Bouteiller in Chambly on Oct 11, 1813 with her parents being Francois Bouteiller and M. Frechette. Simon and Josephte had a daughter (I assume) named Euphrosine who married Toussaint Dufresne in Chambly Feb 11, 1834. Simon and Josephte also had a daughter Anne who married Pierre Provost in Chambly on Jan 16, 1809. Simon and Josephte also had a son Alexis who married Josepthe Lareau on Sept 25, 1821.
Jean Bernard Bertrand and Adelaide Menard had a daughter Isabelle who married Noel Gendreau in La Prairie on Aug 4, 1846. The had a son Damase who married Rose Scott on Oct 30, 1843 in St. Luc. And of course my great grandmother Madeline Bertrand married Francois Couture in 1846.
The above Alexis and Josephte Lareau had a daughter Adeline who married ?Spiron? Moreau in Chambly on Feb 5, 1866. Of course these names are only as good as I could decode and so they may be a little off. It appears Mary that we have the same ancestors. Feel free to e-mail me directly. Teresa Sullivan Lincoln Ne.

Hey, I was reading your email- where does Madeline Bertrand come in to play? Is she the daughter of Damase and Rose? According to my research- Simon and Josephte had a son Jean Baptiste -married to Adelaid Menard- they had a son -Treffle Jacob-he married Adeline or (Delina) Longtin- they had a daughter-Febeolia- who was my grandmother. Looks like Euphrosine was Jean Baptist's sister.
Jean Baptiste was my great great grandfather. I too, think we are from the same ancestors. My grandmother, Febeolia married a Kozak out in South Dakota. After he died they moved to Miami Florida, where her daughter, Marjorie, my mother met my dad. they had 8 children- I am the oldest. they all live in Miami. I moved to N,Carolina in 1989. My mpm passed away but always wanted tp take a trip back to South Dakota to visit her family, but never did. My sisters and I are planning a trip Hopefully next summer. Looks like you are still out in the midwest. Thanks for your information. When you start researching your family you don't realize how many relatiaves you have out there- distant as some may be. It is amazing. I have gotten hooked on this ancestry stuff and now my dad wants me to do his side of the family- Hickey all from Ireland. Email anytime.

I'm working on the Bertrand family tree, and Jean-Baptiste and Adélaïde Ménard are part of it. I'd love to see what you have come up with to compare. you can see what I have at www.geocities.com/shiroikaze

Re: Bertrand, Montreal, QC
Portugais means from Portugal that part of the family was Portuguese! I'm related to Pierre Pedro Dassylva Portugais and his wife. It's hard to find info on that family though
