Yes, I have been able to verify the burial of Jean Baptiste Masson who had multiple wives. I have an extract from the Catholic Church Records of Notre Dame de l'assomption (1846-1855) in Stanbridge as the "veuf" (widower) of defuncte Reine Hamiel dite Lusignan a Louise Paquette. Burial en Ste. Edouard de Knowlton Missisquoi.

Hope this can help you.

Hi Sue,

I was born & raised in Knowlton & know for a fact that there are two cem's in Knowlton. There is St-Edouard's Catholic & the Knowlton Protestant a.k.a. Wheeler Cem. Both of these cemeteries are on St.Paul's Rd.in Knowlton.

I've included many more names than what are listed on Interment.net having found they original church records on Ancestry.com. The list you posted was from the Protestant Cem.

Brenda

brendadawnwilson@gmail.com
Hi,
St.Edourd is the Catholic church in Knowlton and as far as I know Knowlton Cemetery is the only one in the town. I grew up there so know exactly where it is. I am including a link to the names of those buried there and there are some Masson's although not Jean Baptiste. Could they be relatives? Not all names have been transcribed as my father is buried there and he's not on this list. Hope this helps a little.
http://www.interment.net/data/canada/qc/brome/knowlton/knowl...
Cheers
Sue

New Books of Brome County Cemeteries

I have compiled a new book, the first of many of the Brome County Cemeteries. This book is dedicated to our Veterans & British Home Children. It includes the cemeteries of Knowlton,QC, the Protestant a.k.a. Wheeler Cem. & St-Edouard's Catholic Cem.

Both list are done in alphabetical order & includes many names & dates not found on any other lists. The Catholic Cemetery has been moved twice before finally settling on St-Paul's Rd. in Knowlton next to the Protestant Cemetery & I have included many of the missing names & dates. In both cem's I have included extra data to that on the actual stones, ex: maiden names, parents & some marriage dates.

My intention is to continue producing books until I have updated lists of all the Brome County Cem's. These will include cem's in all of the following townships Ex: Brome,Sutton,Bolton,Potton & Farnham Twps.

The Knowlton Cemetery book includes about 200 pages & sells for $30.00 plus a $9.00 mailing fee. All books will include a map of Brome County & are protected by clear plastic covers front & back.

For anyone that is interested I also have 6 different books that include all of the cemeteries in Missisquoi County,QC.

Orders can be placed with me at: brendadawnwilson@gmail.com or can be ordered from the Brome County Historical Society in Knowlton, QC, the Missisquoi Historical Society in Stanbridge East & the Quebec Family History Society in Montreal,QC.

If you have any questions about my books please feel free to contact me.

Brenda
Frelighsburg,QC

Hi June,

Actually we are STILL trying to find out if your William N. Mills b. 1815 is a son of my Moses but no proof. My grandfather had the Moses Mills family bible at the time he was contributing/writing to Rev. Ernest Taylor who wrote the Brome Historical Hist. book where he does NOT mention a William as a son of Moses.
We are trying to find William's official birth record in maybe Topsham VT where Moses was with his other kids. No luck yet. INFO. on this has already been published with no proof. A guy added it to my line that I sent to the BHSociety and it got accidently published with Wm. as a son before he could take him off.
BUT hey, write me at my email and I have another person Sue F. who is also on your exact line.

SPrelusky at telus.net

Shelley

I have been sending requests for assistance from Arlene at the Brome Museum with very little direction or response. I don't know why. Perhaps you can verify the burial of my great great great grandfather. He was Jean Baptiste Masson born in Brome in 1814, married to Marie Louise Pacquet in 1848 in Stanbridge. I am related through their son Joseph born in 1849 in Dunham. Jean Baptiste died in Knowlton on Nov 7, 1883. He was buried at St. Edourd. Is this the church or cemetery? Is there a way to verify this? Thanks for any help you may offer. Linda

In the original handwritten record John is listed after Asher. Do you know anything about him, what happened to the mother, Sarah Smith, after the father, Joel died? Anything will be helpful.
The only HUNT/STURTEVANT connection I have is the following: John Elias Hunt, b. ca. 1800, place uncertain, m. 3 Jun 1860 in Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada, as his second wife, Sarah Sturtevant, b. ca. 1799 at Elgin, Leeds Co., Ontario. I have ancestry for John Elias, who's first wife was Laura Williams. This HUNT family was in the Mississquoi District of Quebec from about 1797 into the mid-1800s. Most of them relocated to Leeds County. I don't know if this is helpful or not. You can contact me directly at rcsnyder2 AT earthlink DOT net. Ignore my spamblocker...
They also had a son named John Hebert Sturtevant (Some records show him as James Hebert) who married a Alice COmstock. They were married in 1889 in Richford Vermont. Alice was from Shefford but her family had moved to Vermont. After the marriage they returned to Vermont and I know Alice is buried in South Sweet Cemetery. Have you ever found any definite records for Levi and Elizabeth? I have their marriage record, but it does not list the parents of either. I am also stuck on Alice's parents, Charles and Mary ? Comstock.

Larry

I'm not related but have been discussing this couple lately. Do you have a record of the 1864 marriage between Joseph Nelson Fadden & Elizabeth Sawyer. If so, would you please share what this register says.

Also, do you have Elizabeth's birth register or her baptismal record?

Note towards the end of this message you will see that Nelson remarried in 1887 in Iowa; then the next record is their daughter's marriage which showed that she was born in Nebraska abt 1892, although she married in Iowa in 1911. I'm not sure if this is new information or not.

Drouin Collection - Baptismal in 1850 - Joseph Nelson Fadden born Clarenceville (Methodist Church) b.
Lent and Ayers/Ayres connections

I can't tell you a whole lot about them, but I can comment that William G Lent and his wife, Henrietta, seem to have been entangled in the lives of my Ayers/Ayres ancestors in New York.

In 1850 Eliza A. Lent (age 24, b NY) was living in West Farms, Westchester County, with Albert Ayers and his wife, Eliza. The 1860 census for West Farms is unfortunately illegible, but in 1870 Kate Lent (age 20, b NY) was living there with Albert and Eliza. And in 1880 Henrietta Lent (age 58 and, I think, the mother of Kate) was boarding with Albert and Eliza on Fordham RR Avenue -- apparently that's what their area of West Farms became in Westchester County, later around 173rd street, I think, when it was merged with New York City.

BTW, Albert's wife's middle name started with 'C' (Eliza C. Ayres). Might she too have been a Cook? An Eliza A. Lent -- likely the one staying with Albert and Eliza Ayres in 1850 -- married my second-great grand-uncle Phinney Ayers in New York City; their daughter Fremene Grace Ayers married a Fairchild in 1888.

Well, I'm more interested in the Ayers/Ayres line, since its an ancestral line of mine, but your Lents do get caught up in it. They all seem to have long-term roots in West Farms, Westchester County.

Patricia

Hi,
I've been doing some research and I'm pretty sure that I'm related through my grandmother's side. From what I can gather, it goes like this. My grandmother was born as Magdalene Doherty. Her father, John Doherty, married Hannah Mary Wighton. Hannah's father John married Margaret OSullivan. I am trying to find out where John Wighton came from. Do you know?

His father was John Francis Taylor Lovie, who married Elizabeth Hamilton in 1892. I think John may have arrived in Victoria on the "Star of China" in March, 1887 aged 21. If you have any information, I would love to hear from you, or I can pass on what little information I have. Regards, Heather
Brill Family. Excerpts from the book entitled: '''CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE HISTORY OF THE EASTERN TOWNSHIPS,'' by Cyrus Thomas.

BRILL / SARGENT / SARGEANT:
Fishkill, Dutchess Co., N.Y., to Canada to Medina Co., Ohio.
.
Alfred Sargent/Sargeant was born in 1805 in Canada; and, died after 1880, in Medina County, Ohio.
Alfred Sargent married IRENE BRILL, daughter of WILLIAM BRILL and Eunice D. Chapman. IRENE BRILL was born in 1807, in St. Armand, OR West Bolton Township, Brome, Quebec, Lower Canada. IRENE BRILL SARGEANT died in Medina County, Ohio, in about 1883.
.
According the biography of Alfred Sargent/Sargeant, WILLIAM BRILL (father of Irene BRILL Sargent), was born in Dutchess Co., New York, at Fishkill, in the year 1777.
In about 1807, WILLIAM BRILL migrated to Bolton, Canada. Also according to the book, below, WILLIAM BRILL's brother, JOHN BRILL, had settled in Bolton a few years earlier.
It appears that some of the Brill family may have also resided in Saint-Armand Township, Quebec, Canada before settling in Bolton.
.
========================================
Attached below are two brief excerpts from the book by Cyrus Thomas, entitled:
.
'CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE HISTORY OF THE EASTERN TOWNSHIPS of a work containing an account of the early settlement of St. Armand, Dunham, Sutton, Brome, Potton, and Bolton' :
.
''BOLTON. Bolton is twelve miles long and ten wide. It is bounded on the north by Shefford, South Stukely, and Oxford; on the east by Magog and Lake Memphremagog; on the south by Potton and the Lake; and on the west by Bome. It was erected into a township by Letters Patent, issued August 18th, 1797*
_________

*NAMES OF THE GRANTEES: ''Nicholas Austin, Silas Peaslee, Mark Randall, Joel Fraser, Jacob Place, Joshua Peevy, Peter Dils, Simon D. Wadleigh, Alexander Thompson, James Taylor, Jeremiah Page, Joseph Buzzell, Jeremiah Page (Jr.), John Eastman, Joseph Chandler, Samuel Page, Jonathan F. [end].
.
(CAPS ADDED FOR EMPHASIS).

========================================

Excerpt from:.

'CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE HISTORY OF THE EASTERN TOWNSHIPS of a work containing an account of the early settlement of St. Armand, Dunham, Sutton, Brome, Potton, and Bolton':

West Bolton.
''SETTLERS came into this part of the township as early as 1800. John Brill, from St. Armand, but formerly from Fishkill, New York, settled here about that time. The lot where he settled, and which he cleared, is now owned by J.S. Brill. He became a captain of militia in this township; he was a useful citizen, a man of integrity, and an active member of the Methodist church. He died in 1856. . . .
.
[snip snip]
.
In 1807, William Brill, brother to John Brill, settled on the lot now owned and occupied by Franklin Stone. After living here a year, he went to Philipsburg, and for four years managed the farm of Lodwick Streit.
.
He then returned to Bolton, and spent the remainder of his days on the lot above-mentioned. He was an industrious and upright man; he died in 1854, at the age of seventy-seven; he has only two children, daughters. One married Franklin Stone in 1823. Mr. Stone has lived in Bolton ever since that period, and been an active, enterprising citizen, and has held municipal offices.
.
The other daughter of Mr. Brill lives in Ohio. ''
.
[end of excerpt]
.
*NOTE # 1: Irene Brill, who married Alfred Sargent/Sargent, and resided with her husband and children in Harrisville, Medina County, Ohio, was daughter of William Brill, referenced above, who 'lives in Ohio.'
.
*NOTE # 2: Eleanor Brill (sister of Irene Brill and the daughter of William Brill), married Franklin Stone. Eleanor BRILL Stone is buried in the Duboyce Cemetery, West Bolton, Brome Co., Quebec, Canada
.
-- -- -- -- --
==================================

Michael, Adam Fuller (Adolph Forest) and his wife Hermine Robert were godparents in Redford, NY in 1881 for Adolph Auger (Oshier). Julie Poissant forest was godmother in Redford in 1884 for Charles Auger (Oshier) Charles and Adolph's parents were Pierre Auger (peter Oshier) and Marie Brunet. Often godparents are relatives. do you know of any connection between the forest and Augers or Brunets. Thank you

Linda, I do have information regarding all of the families about whom you ask. Most of my information is about the Hammond family, but I have corresponded with several who are rather closely related to you. If you will find a copy of the book, "Vermont Families in 1791" edited by Scott Bartley, and published by the VT Historical Society, you will find much Hammond information including Elizabeth Hammond Ketzebach and other members of the family of Benjamin and Zilpha ____Hammond. You also will find my mailing address there, since I submitted the information. Then you can contact me directly. The information I have is too much to send here.
