In 1817, Daniel Jones from New Hampshire, moved here. He had previously married a daughter of James Miller, and they setted on land adjacent to Potton Township. Cyrus Thomas writes of the terrible circumstances this family endured, which were so typical of the experiences of early settlers. According to Thomas, Jones managed to cut enough logs and build a house in three days {without help of a horse] but the roof was not completely covered when he, his wife, and two year old child moved in. {Daniel Jones Jr.was the baby}. That night a heavy rain nearly flooded them out, and they had to place their son under the bed for protection. The next morning, Jones had to cut more bark for the roof before his wife could cook breakfast. Circumstances improved, however, and over the years, Daniel Jones became "comfortably situated". When Methodist preachers found their way into The Glen around 1815, Jones was converted by the Rev. Roswell Bourn, the minister at Potton, and became a local preacher wofrking among the surrounding communities. This taken from the book "With Heart and Hands and Voices" by Phyllis Hamilton.
