I have been sending requests for assistance from Arlene at the Brome Museum with very little direction or response. I don't know why. Perhaps you can verify the burial of my great great great grandfather. He was Jean Baptiste Masson born in Brome in 1814, married to Marie Louise Pacquet in 1848 in Stanbridge. I am related through their son Joseph born in 1849 in Dunham. Jean Baptiste died in Knowlton on Nov 7, 1883. He was buried at St. Edourd. Is this the church or cemetery? Is there a way to verify this? Thanks for any help you may offer. Linda

Hi,
St.Edourd is the Catholic church in Knowlton and as far as I know Knowlton Cemetery is the only one in the town. I grew up there so know exactly where it is. I am including a link to the names of those buried there and there are some Masson's although not Jean Baptiste. Could they be relatives? Not all names have been transcribed as my father is buried there and he's not on this list. Hope this helps a little.

Hi Sue,

I was born & raised in Knowlton & know for a fact that there are two cem's in Knowlton. There is St-Edouard's Catholic & the Knowlton Protestant a.k.a. Wheeler Cem. Both of these cemeteries are on St.Paul's Rd.in Knowlton.

I've included many more names than what are listed on Interment.net having found they original church records on Ancestry.com. The list you posted was from the Protestant Cem.

Have you had any luck with verifying Jean Baptiste Masson's burial? He is my ggg grandad too through wife before Louise Reine Amiel dit Lusignan. Whatever became of Joseph? Thank you.

Yes, I have been able to verify the burial of Jean Baptiste Masson who had multiple wives. I have an extract from the Catholic Church Records of Notre Dame de l'assomption (1846-1855) in Stanbridge as the "veuf" (widower) of defuncte Reine Hamiel dite Lusignan a Louise Paquette. Burial en Ste. Edouard de Knowlton Missisquoi.

Hope this can help you.

I was in Knowlton in 2000 to visit the graves of my Lefebvre and St. Martin ancestors. I took quite a few photos of the graves and unfortunately, I forgot to jot down the name of the cemetery. My late cousin took us to the cemetery and I just know it was outside of Knowlton. My ancestors were parishioners of St. Edouard's Church in Knowlton. I went to the online cemeteries listed for Brome and their names were not listed on any of the cemeteries. Is there a Catholic cemetery, other than Austin, that might not be on the list? It is not a real big cemetery and it has a large wooden cross with Jesus in the center. Please, if anyone knows the name of this cemetery, let me know. Thank you.

Paulette,

The Catholic Cemetery in Knowlton is St. Edouard's it's on St. Paul Rd. next to the Knowlton Protestant Cem.

There are a great many Lefevbre & St-Martin's buried there. I believe that I'm one of a very few people who have recorded the headstones in the Catholic Cemeteries in Brome & Missisquoi Counties.

Brenda,

A thousand hugs! I did a satellite search and found St. Edouard's Catholic Cemetery and saw the large cross right there in the middle! Thank you so very much for your help. I did a Google search for cemeteries in the Brome area and St. Edouard's was not listed.

You made my day!

Paulette

Hi Paulette,

Your very welcome. It was my pleasure.

You needed to look in Knowlton (Lac Brome),in Brome County. Brome is also a separate town within Brome County.

All the best,
Brenda
