At his 80th birthday gathering George Hawk shared his story of walking from New York to Missisquoi Bay with 6 other men in 1783. One man died on the way; a Quaker family provided lodging and bread; finding a dead horse the men had steak for supper; he arrived shoeless and penny less. I am wondering if anyone is able to identify the men with whom George Hawk made this journey. Such a story must have been shared within other families.
