Ancestors Megantic Quebec
Seeking gggrandparents. Came from Ireland before 1850

Hi Mary, Historically the Donaghy surname isn't extremely prevalent in Quebec so I thought I'd write. My John Donaghy came to St. Johns and Iberville counties, a stone's throw west of Megantic and just south of Montreal, in 1825. I have all the particulars at my website (listed below) if you'd care to visit. Where in Ireland did your Donaghy's and Kerr's emigrate from ?? Regards, Catherine

I'm the eldest daughter of Harold archie Donaghy, son of Ruth Elizabeth beatty and George Peter Donaghy. They lived in Leeds Quebec.

My father had a cousin Cora Donaghy. His family was frpm Inverness/Lower Ireland area and moved to Vermont about 1880. I didnt know anything about her except she was included in our prayers. Do you have a Cora?
|
I don't know of a Cora, but then again I know very little about the Donaghy family. My Great-grandmother was Charlotte Donaghy(b. 1837) and her father was John. She married John Kerr. They lived in Halifax and Leeds, PQ. I'd appreciate any help you could give. Thanks. Mary

I know nothing about John Donaghy. He married Mary Ellis. They lived near Leeds. The Kerr family came from Enneskillen, Ireland about 1820-30. I can't seem to find your website. Please contact again. Thanks.

I have John dying on March 27,1892 and being born in 1802 also wife Mary Ellis dying July 22,1982 at age of 75. Are they buried in Maple Grove Cemetary in halifax?

I have considerable interest and a lot of material on one part of the Donaghy family in Megantic. My ggg was David Donaghy (1808-1887) married to Charlotte Ellis (1821-1893). His brother was your John (1800-1892) and wife Mary Ellis (1817-1892), sister of Charlotte. There was also a sister Elizabeth Donaghy married to Frederick Ellis, brother to Charlotte and Mary. Your John and Mary are buried at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Maple Grove. Do you or Mary Comiskey or John Duff know if there were any other siblings of David, John and Elizabeth Donaghy, perhaps Michael (abt 1804-1893) married to Elizabeth Nugent, or Noble (abt 1810-1878) married to Anne Duff, or Ann Noble (abt 1818-1847). Also, does anyone know if Arthur Donaghy (abt 1782-1849) could have been a father or uncle. There is a lot of information in the Quebec Family History office, books by Helen Harper, Gwen Rawlings Barry, Marlita Lamontagne Ouellette, and the Repertory of Births, Marriages and Burials for the Anglo-Protestants of Megantic County. Regards, Jack

Jack, I found something you might be interested in, (1871 Marriage Registrations) Archives of Ontario, RG 80-5-0-16 volume 16) I will type this as written- I suspected there was some mispellings- now I'm sure. "William Donaghy, 25, r. Wallace Twp., b. Canada, bachelor, farmer, Ch of Eng, s/o David Donachy & Charlotte Ellison, married Margaret Williamson, 19, r. Wallace, b. Canada, spinster, Ch of Eng, d/o William Williamson & Mary Aldridge. Wit. Arthur Ellis & Mary Ann Walker, Wallace. 17 Jan. 1871, Listowel, Rev. Wm Bell, license. [Listowel] I suspected there was an error in the Ellison or Ellis, and I was interested in this, because I believe my gggrandmother Sarah Donahue/Donahoe/Donaghy had a mother with the last name Ellis. I quessing that Sarah married George McKeever in Wallace, as their first child Mary Jane McKeever was born there. Their next to children were born in the US, and then the last in Chilliwack BC, where they built the first hotel. I have a copy of Sarah's death certificate, but the Donahoe is crossed out to read Donahue, and just Ellis is listed as mother. To add to the confusion, in a book on Chilliwack, it list William Holt as a brother to Mrs. Sarah McKeever- but I traced the Holt family back, and can't find a connection either between him or his wife. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks, Barbara
