Kerr & McMillan Family 1829 from Laggan Isle of Arran Scotland
I am searching for members of my mothers Gaelic speaking forebears Kerr and M(a)cMillan who were cleared from Laggantuine, Laggan, on The Cock of Arran, Isle of Arran Scotland, in January 1829, and sailed on the Caledonia on 25th April 1829 landing at Quebec before going to Point St Nicholas. We now a lot about the family who stayed behind on Arran, but the family letters seem to be lost, from Canada. Of Interest is that thses Kerrs and McMiilans were the same McMillans who founded the Publishing House McMillan

I have some information on a Agnes McMillan born in Stolling, Scotland on 02February1852 and died on 12January1931. She was married to Joseph McIntyre in Inverness, Quebec on 25February1874. I show that they had 4 children.
Please let me know if this may fit into your search. If so, I would appreciate receiving information on the McMillans prior to Agnes.
Thanks

Re: Kerr & McMillan Family 1829 from Laggan Isle of Arran Scotland
David - while searching the message boards I see that you received a reply to this query from a Steve MacIntyre dated 12/24/1999. Steve said he had information on a Agnes McMillian born in Scotland....Steve also had another message posted that refers to my grandmother, Ethel Maud Snelgrove. I have tried to contact Steve but the e-mail address from 1999 is no longer valid. Were you successful in connecting with Steve? If so, can you please let me know how I can get in contact with him. Appreciate any help you can give.

Hi David. My name is Billy Kerr from Irvine, Ayrshire. I'm also off the Kerr's of Laggan, Isle of Arran, I can actually see the island from my back door. My ggg grandfather Angus Kerr was born at Laggan 1809, his parents were Malcolm Kerr (seaman) and Janet Davidson. This family moved to Saltcoats c1816, Angus's son John b1840 Saltcoats moved to Irvine when he married local lassie Mary Dale 1860. Their son Angus b1860 Irvine is the father of my grandfather Robert Kerr b1898 Irvine, who fathered my dad Angus Kerr b1927 Irvine.

Re: Kerr & McMillan Family 1829 from Laggan Isle of Arran Scotland
Hi Billy.
My name is Earnest Michael (Mike) Kerr. I am a descendant of Daniel Kerr and Ann Sinclair who departed Kilbridebennan, Isle of Arran, in 1827 as reported in "Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada before Condederation" by Donald Whyte. They relocated to Dalhousie, New Brunswick, Canada.
I am trying to find information on the their parents or other family members that stayed on the Isle of Arran. Or, any information on where the Kerr's on the lower end of the Isle of Arran came from.
Daniel was born on 2 May 1791 in East Bennan, Isle of Arran, and Ann Sinclair was born during 1792 in Kilbride, Bute, Scotland.
Any information or assistance you can provide would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Mike Kerr Atlanta, Georgia, USA
