Looking for information on William Mckeage, born in Canada and moved to Pittsburgh, NH USA. He married Iris Abbott and their children were, Gladys, Winnie, George, Ian, James, Violet and Louisa. In 1910 they were living in Pittsburgh on Hill Road. The census says both his parents were from Ireland. I would like to know who his parents were and where they were from. His daughter Gladys married Walter Haynes and they lived in West Stewartstown, NH. They were my grandparents. Any information would be appreciated.

The information you were given about the McKeages from Leeds is correct. I am a descendent of Thomas. We have extensive records of the McKeages descended from Thomas grandfather Robert but some sketchy information on the descendants of Robert's siblings. I drove down through New Hampshire for an afternoon a few years ago and came across the McKeage name on a war memorial. I know some of the early ones went back and forth across the border for marriages and some settled south of the border. Any information you can give me on your branch of the family would be greatly appreciated and I can reciprocate for you if you wish.

Wish I could find out more about Maryjane Mckeage , born May 14 1833 in broughton, quebec. LDS sources say her parents are John Mckeage born 1810 Ireland and Sarah Maria Stevens born 1817 New Hampshire .

According to my records, your information is correct. When the McKiggs (note original spelling) came from Ireland, the eldest daughter stayed in Ireland. William, the eldest son returned to Ireland but died at sea.
1832-33 was a busy time for the next two McKeage boys. Both Dr. John and brother Robert fathered children by the Grey sisters, Elizabeth and Lucy. and Dr. John married Sarah Maria Stevens and fathered Mary Jane. Robert's offspring was named Letitia and she was five years old when he married Matilda Stevens, the sixteen year old sister of his sister-in-law. The next day, Lucy Grey dropped off little Letitia at her father's home and Matilda raised her as her own.
Mary Jane had two sisters and a brother George born in 1844, died after 1900 who married Sarah Fraser who died in 1921. I have no more information on John and Sarah's family. I do have a lot of information on the Stevens family going back to 1549 as well as the McKeage family.
Sorry, Mary Jane 1833 - 1917 married William Suitor 1825 - 1902.
The Stevens family came from New Hampshire to Quebec just before Matilda was born. most of them settled in the Tingwick area in the Eastern Townships near Danville. But this family settled in East Broughton in the Appalachians where the McKeages had settled and established and Anglican parish. The Suitors settled in St. Sylvestre - a little closer to the lowlands area. The McKeages, Suitors, Stevens, and Cordicks are interwoven through several marriages - i.e. two or more sisters and brothers married to two or more brothers and sisters etc.

Thank you for the reply. Mary Jane Mckeage and Wiliam Suitor are my great great grandparents. This was an interesting detail on the Mckeage brothers. Do you have any idea why the Stevens family moved to Quebec?

This whole area of Quebec was just opening up. The McKeages came from Ireland about the same time as the Stevens came up from the States. The time was around 1822. Stevens were there first. Matilda was the first 'white' child born in the Broughtons. McKeages arrived the following year. This area of the Appalachians was settled mainly by Irish settlers with a few small Scottish settllements in the same area. Further west where the rest of the Stevens settled, many Scottish officers in the British army mustered out and received land grants for their military service. My father's side of the family were in this group.

I have no further information on William McKeage & Mary Jane Suitor. I would really appreciate any information that you might have on this branch of the family. There are several McKeage - Suitor connections in my family tree. I have over 6000 names recorded now but there are may gaps that I would like to fill in.
