there is a book called Imprints III, Discovering the Historic face of English Quebec by Ray and Diana Baillie, that has beautiful pictures and history of Grandmere and surrounds.

You can check for yourself in the 1901 Canadian census at http://automatedgenealogy.com . Be sure to check the spellings Chandonet, Chandonnais, Chandonnait as well. There are 177 in 1901 with the vast majority in Lotbiniere.

Monsieur Roger Bélanger,

J'aimerais savoir si vous avez trouvé une réponse à votre demande. Je sais que Theodule Monet est le nom de mon arrière grand père. Mon grand pere se nomme Theophitus Monet marie a Marie Louise Thibodeau à St-Bernard de Shawinigan le 17 août 1914. Ils ont vecu une grande partie de leur vie à Trois-Rivières.

Dans mes notes généalogiques, j'ai Theodule Monet marié à Agnes Deshaies Mariage le 26 juillet 1864 a Notre Dame de Montreal.

Je n ai pas eu l opportunite d approfondir et d aller plus loin du cote Monet. J en ai plus du cote Thibodeau.

Je demeure a Riviere du Loup et je suis la fille de Gerard Monet marie a Fernande Mailhot.

Si vous avez de plus amples details j aimerais bien savoir ou aller chercher. On m a dit d aller voir du côté de St Hyacinthe peut être.

Sans vouloir être indiscrète, quelle est votre relation avec Theodule Monet?

I don't know how familiar you are with the history of the area, but the date coincides with the start of the pulp and paper industry in the St. Maurice valley. Laurentide Paper Company was started in Grand'mere and engineers were enticed to the area by the offer of jobs, low cost housing, private school for their children and company-sponsored medical care and hospital. The "company" took excellent care of their employees for at least the next 60 years. I am a child of one of those English immigrants who grew up in Grand'mere in the 40's and 50's.
