I'm looking for the parents of Alexander Giroux, born about 1825 and his wife, Matilda Pratt, born about 1826 who came to the U.S. from Trois-Riveres, Quebec, Canada. Alexander was a shoemaker and resided in Fulton, Volney Township, Oswego County, NY. They had eight children: George b. 1851, Angeline b. 1852, Caroline b. 1854, Thomas b. 1857, Theodore Collis b. 8 Aug 1857 (Note: Thomas & Theodore are possibly twins, but more likely one and the same), Minnie b. 1859, Ellen b. 1864 and Souisa b. 1866. Alexander died 19 Mar 1896 in Minetto, NY and Matilda died in 1871 in Fulton. Alexander had a second wife, Isabel (Belle) who died 22 Jul 1877 in Fulton. All three are buried in Mount Adnah Cemetery in Fulton.

Their son, Theodore Collis, married Flora Etta Glines about 1878/79 in Fulton, NY. Theodore & Etta had only one living child, Grace Mae, who married Jacob Burton Bond, my grandfather.

In my 11th generation and 12th generations the name GIROUX is found. I have a Toussaint GIROUX Christened November 2, 1633 in Reveillon, Perche, France, Died February 15, 1715 in Beauport, Quebec, Canada. He married Marie GOGDARD, September 29, 1654 in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

I also have a GIROUX in my 12th generation by the name of Jean GIROUX, Buried January 10 in Reveillon, Perche, France. He married Marguerite QUILLERON. I have no further information on her.

I reliaze this goes quite a ways back but it might lead you somewhere. You might try the Beauport, Canada area. I have info back to the 12th generation. The GIROUX name may appear more than just twice in my family tree but the sad part is I am trying to put all this information back into Family Treemaker after a mishap with a nieces computer and the inability to find the backup disks after a move. You talk about a mess. I have been inputting data for some time now and have over 1100 names in thus far and have a long ways to go. I found the GIROUX names on an Ahnentafel Report. I have yet to run across the family group page and then I may have more to give you. Hello again.....I have found another GIROUX in my family tree, in fact, a little more recent.

In my eighth generation I have a Louise Angelique GIROUX born August 31, 1735 in Beauport, Quebec and married Louis Barthelemi MASSE on November 13, 1752 in Quebec City. Louis Barthelemi MASSE was born on July 7, 1731 in Quebec City.

Unfortunately, I haven't any info on your James Giroux & Josephine Birch. My Giroux family is at a brick wall at the present time. All I know from death certificates is that they came from Trois Rivieres, Quebec.

Two Giroiux researchers that I have been contact with some time ago are:

Both these researchers are descended from Toussaint Giroux who came from France to Quebec, Canada. Tom has an extensive database on his Giroux family and he was unable to connect my Giroux family to his. I have since realized that it was probably because his Giroux family is Catholic and my Giroux family were members of the Anglican Church (Church of England).
