I have an ancestor with the name Francis St. Michel. I'm not 100% sure if I got the first nsme right. I know he was French Canadian, he was a fur trader I believe, & he married a French Canadian Indian woman. He had children, boys, something happened that caused him to move to the USA with his children. I would have to guess than I'd guess that she died. After moving here they changed the spelling of his last name to Mitchell. He would be my great great grandfather I believe. Does any of this sound familiar? I look forward to your response.
Sincerely, Kathy Mitchell
P.S. I'm pretty new at this.

My Aunt, Anna Belle Mitchell spoke of a family Member with the name Circe. She also said something about a indian tribe named Circe? She has passed and I don't know exactly what is what. So hard to trace back. I saw that some of my relatives were listed with the last name Michel that was changed to Mitchell.
Do you have any dates that relate to Francis?
I am brand new at this too. Running into brick walls:(

Hi,my name is Ralph Mitchell. My 2nd great grandfather was Laurent Circe dit St-Michel. He moved from Quebec to Alburgh,Vermont in the early 1800's and eventually changed his name to Orin Mitchell I have the line back to the immigrant from France as well as the names of his parents in France. The family rumor when I was growing up was that Circe was a French name taken by my Indian family. That is not true. The line is completely French.Give me your regular e-mail address and I will give you all the information that you need. Thanks,Ralph
