Hi to any Moncrieffs. I am part of the western clan - of the line of David Moncrieff. Robert Moncrieff was my ggrandfather - William John m to Margaret Ann Neil were my grandparents. My mother, Florence Mary Jane Moncrieff (Knox) is the eldest of their children and still hale and hearty at 90++. I would love to hear from you and help fill in some of the gaps.

Hi, was reading your message and had to reply. My Grandfather, Robert Moncrieff was born on Trondra in Shetland. His father was William Edgar Moncrieff who married Christina Coutts. My Grandfather and 2 of his sisters Leebie and Mary immigrated to New Zealand. William Edgar had fishing boats. have a feeling that somewhere there will be a link.
Thanks Jane

I am researching my Neil Family History which seems to tie in to the previous messages. My 3 gr grandfather bca 1791-4 and his wife Eliza Wharton bca 1801-4 and their two children, James bca 1820 and Dorathea bca 1822 emmigrated to New Paisley (St. Jerome) Quebec around 1823. They finally settled in Mascouche , Que. where they were farmers. They had 8 more children. Some of those children moved to the Arundel area.
Dorathea married Thomas Patterson, a shoemaker and later moved to Ponsonby.
Mary Neil bca 1832 married John Sinclair. They settled in Rockaway Valley.
Edward jr. married Sarah Sinclair and they also settled in Rockaway Valley. They had 9 children. When Sarah died Edward remarried to Mary Guthrie. Together they had two children, Mary Agnes bca 1880 and Margaret Ann bca 1883, who married William John Moncreiff.
Many of the children and grand children moved to Saskachewan, Manitoba, Alberta and BC.
While I have much more info there are contradictions, errors and missing info. If anyone has any information that they would like to share It would be great to hear from you.

Regards

Ken

Hi Jane
The Mary you talk about below was my Great Grandma. She married Andrew Smith from Bannockburn Central Otago. She died in 1987. Anyway this makes me William Edgar Moncrieff's great great granddaughter. I would be interested to compare notes. I love to know more information about William his children and older generations. I know William and Christina had another son John who I think was killed in WW 1 and there was another two sisters Babara and Jemima.
Many thanks
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

William and Christina Moncrieff had Elizabeth(Aunty Leebe), Barbara(Aunty Babs), Jemima(Aunty Mime), Mary(your Great Grandma) and Robert(Bob,my Grandfather). The link below will give you loads of information. Elizabeth, Mary and Bob all immigrated
to New Zealand. I used to write to Aunty Mary. Some of us have stayed with cousins in England and Scotland. Am more than happy to give you loads of info if you want it. We can trace the family to the 1700's in Shetland. My work email is jwills@prdhelensvale.com.au Are you related to Duncan? He was Mary's grandson I think. Wouls be great to talk with you sometime.
