Patrick Purcell born ca 1777, probably in Kilkenny City, Co Kilkenny. Migrated as a free man to colonial NSW in 1806.

He married Margaret Taylor in Sydney, NSW in 1807 - five children: Eliza, James, Philip, William and Mary Anne (married Patrick Carlon (CAROLAN) native of Bailieborough, Co Cavan).

Patrick Purcell became an important early colonalist - had one of the first two storey houses in colonial Sydney; he also held Publican's license in the late 1830s at Landsdown, near Liverpool (NSW).

Patrick Purcell died 16 August 1858 at Burragorang.

A Patrick Purcell was baptised at St Canice's Kilkenny in March 1778, son of a James Purcell and Mary Fox (they married in 1773). I wonder if this is the same Patrick?

Interested to hear from anyone who may have details of this Purcell family
