Surnames: DOUGLAS PURDY
Hi, I am trying to find the parentage of my 2nd great grandmother Jeannette Douglas.

She was born 2 June 1831 in Chatham, , Quebec, Canada. She married Henry Robert Purdy (abt 1831 Antrim, Ireland died abt 1861 Dakota Territory, USA) 11 Nov.1856 in Brownsburg-Chatham, Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada "Cushing". Chatham Ottawa River One of the witnesses was John Douglas.

Purdy later died and she married my 2nd great grandfather Thomas Cole, who was a widower.

The Purdy's and the Coles came from Canada to Dakota Territory by ox drawn wagon.

I understand that Purdy's father's name was Taylor and that he was adopted.

I find a large number of Douglas' in the area at the time, but don't know anything about their genealogy.

Thanks for any help,

Kerry Ann

Have you checked the parish registers for Canada at FamilySearch or looked in the Drouin Collection at Ancestry.com? If Jeannette's birth was too early for the registers, perhaps she had a sibling that made it into a register.

If you aren't familiar with record availability for the Dakota Territory, you could check the FamilySearch Wiki for guidance https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Main_Page. I am wondering if a death record or possibly a soldier's pension application would be helpful.

Again, if Jeannette has siblings, maybe one of them made it into the records.

Best regards,
Bonnie
