BEAVEN Family of Argenteuil / Weir

Surnames: BEAVEN, BEVEN, BEVON
I am having problems piecing together the Beaven family from this area, as found spelled as Beven, Bevon on various census records.
The earliest member of this family that I have found to date is Stephen Beaven born about 1803 in England and was settled in this area by 1851 with a wife and 6 children by the 1851 census.
There are very few Beavon entries in this area and only a couple appear on each census.
I am trying to fit in Alice Jane Beaven born about 1884 in Weir, Quebec who appears to be the daughter of a William Beaven born about 1861.
My problem is fitting William into the original 1851 family.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Leigh....

Hi Leigh.

Marlene Simmons has a database of church records that covers Argenteuil County. You can order transcriptions of those records from her for a fee. She also provides a service in which she will search through the records for a particular surname and tell you which members with that surname belong to a particular family. I believe she charges a one-hour fee for this. I checked her database, and she has 26 Beavens in it, including an Alice Jane and a William. If you haven't been to the Eastern Townships and Quebec Genealogy Web site, this is the address: http://simmons.b2b2c.ca/

Another avenue you might pursue is to look at the St. Matthew's Anglican Church records for Argenteuil County on microfilm from LDS. The film I am viewing covers 1831 to 1882, FHL US/CAN Film 1992751 Item 3.

Good luck in your search.

Bonnie

My great uncle William S. Beaven appears in the 1901 census. He was born in 1860 and at the time of the census he had eight children. His parents were Stephen Beaven and Sarah Ann Bates. I don't know if he is your William or not. They seem to have used the same names in different branches of the family and on down through the generations. Maybe this will help.

Hi, my family on my father's side is from the Weir area.

There is a lake Beaven (they have changed it to Bevin) named after a I don't know. My granfather ,Edmund Phillip Beaven and grandmother Gladys Dora Larose were born in 1904 and 1903. They mixed up their years on the headstone.

I was told my greatgrandfather's name was Laschi Beaven, but I don't have any written documents for his birth and death dates.

I met another Beaven (Marcy I believe) in Banff Alberta who's family was from the Laurentians so we have spread out around the country.

I hope this helps.I would also like to know more about the Beaven history as well.
