thats him; they moved froom St. Alphonse to Montreal to northern Ontario in the early 1920's. Connor is correct, there is no "O"; the french canadian priests were lax when spelling Irish names and most of the Irish couldn't read or write english in those days so they couldn't correct spellings.

Hi.
Thanks for response. Something may come up at some point, linking some of the Nallen families.

I've just looked for your Gilbert Nallen in Canada on the Church of the Latter Day Saints site and found someone with this name who died on 5th Sept 1926, aged 85 years, in Monteith, Cochrane, Ontario. His estimated year of birth given as 1841. Gilbert's parents were given as Thomas Nallen and Bridget O'Connor - similar to the ones I've seen you mention previously - except that Bridget is O'Connor rather than Connor. Could this be a spelling mistake or did they drop the O when they emigrated. Something perhaps for you to explore. Thomas seems to be a popular name amongst the Crossmolina Nallens but this doesn't help find reference to Gilbert's father.
Kathleen

Regretfully, Kate, I have nothing to help you. I can't even say for sure that my Nallen's were from Mayo.I know for sure they left Ireland late 1838 or early 1839, pregnant. The boy they left with, John N., was born in Ireland circa 1836, James was born at sea after 24 feb 1839, and they brought no others. My ggf Gilbert was born 1/1/43 in Canada. I don't know their parents names, other than presumably Nallen and Connor. I am pretty sure that they are the only Nallen family in my bunch who emigrated; I believe that some Connor siblings or parents did since one clue would appear to be the name Gilbert, never used since by any of my Nallens; I did find a Gilbert Connor who was godfather to the fourth Nallen child, Mary (Marie), and a Thomas Connor, listed as Gilbert Nallen's uncle, who was a witness at Gilbert's wedding. I need to find a marriage circa 1835 and birth/baptismal records circa 1815, all RC, to move forward (or backward!).

Hi
I'm interested in the Nallens from Crossmolina. I have a John Nallen, born c1840, from Longford townland, who married Mary Diamond, a cousin of my gt grandfather. (They can be seen in Longford on the 1901 census). John's father was Patrick, I dont know his mothers name. I'm aware of your ancester, Pat being born in Longford to a Pat Nallen and Peggy Hoban in 1834 and there was also a James born to a Pat Nallen and a Mary. I dont know if its the same Patrick, with two wives, and if one of these couples is also John's parents.

Do you have any information to support the possibility that the Edward, James and Pat Nallen in Longford in the 1830s were brothers. Or the relationship of any of these men to the James Nallen living in Knockadangan in 1901, or the Winifred Nallen living in Knockgarravaun, also in 1901. I think Winifred might have been the widow of a Patrick Nallen, so he would be the relation. There were a couple of other Nallen families in Crossmolina town in 1901 who might also have links with the original Longford families.

I also have an Anne Nallen, born c1841 who married Martin Caden from Crossmolina, where they settled. (Their daughter married another relative of mine). Anne is likely to belong to one of the Crossmolina Nallens.

Kathleen Diamond

Présents: Germain Dupuy, Pierre Dupuy, Jean Bro, Joseph Bro. Âgé de 58 ans.
a further clue might be my ggf's name, Gilbert, the firstborn on the west side of the pond, third born child and third born son. Didn't they name people in a specific fashion back then? The name hasn't been used since in my line, but he appears to have been named after Gilbert Connor, perhaps his mother's brother, who was also livivg in St. Alphonse by Dec. 1844. Do you perchance have a Gilbert in your line? The 7 kids in order of birth were John b.1836 Mayo?, James born at sea 1839, Gilbert b.1/1/1843 St. Alphonse, Mary b. 10 dec 1844 St. Alphonse, Bridget b. 9 Oct 1846 in St Alphonse, Thomas b.1 May 1849 St. Alphonse, and Ellen b. 25 July 1851 in St. Alphonse; all the names are common to Ireland.

thanks for your kind offer; I have most, if not all, of the data on North American descendants of the Nallen who emigrated in 1838 (I have not attempted to do the Conner line); what I haven't been able to do is connect them to anyone in Ireland. Anything you can offer to establish that link would appreciated. I still believe Mayo is the answer, but can't prove it. Your 1834 Patrick may have been a nephew.
I believe after extensive research that this Nallen family was from County Mayo; Thomas Nallen, born circa 1810, wife Bridget Connor, born circa 1809, married circa 1835, son John born circa 1836,son James, born at sea between 25 Feb 1839 and 23 Feb 1840, son Gilbert born Jan 1, 1843 in St. Alphonse de Rodriguez,Quebec, then Mary, Bridget, Thomas and Ellen, all St. Alphonse. The Griffith's Valuation from 10+years after this family left Ireland lists only four Nallen family units in all of Ireland, and all four are in Mayo; James in Knockagurravaun, Edward in Toobeen, Patrick in Crossmolina, and Catherine in Hinakilleen. Wild guess is that one or more of these are somehow related to my Thomas.

This indicates parents of Joseph Raymond to be Pierre Raymond dit Duprius and the late Josephte Archambault.

From what i can see from two different census, is that george was married to an Elizabeth ( I dont have a last name but it does say she was born in the USA) and had two children, Mary and george before marrying Rebecca. Both those children seem to fall off the map. a relative did tell me that george jr never married and moved out to vancouver.

Hello,

Rebecca was the daughter of William Thompson and Ann Jane Morgan. William and Ann are buried in Christ Church graveyard in Rawdon. (pictures are on findagrave.com) After George died in 1906 Rebecca married a Robert Roarke (Drouin records) She died in 1956 and is also buried in Christ Chruch graveyard in Rawdon. I have been researching the Thompsons' in Rawdon/Chertsey for a long time. I have read your previous posts on Rootsweb and have just been waiting for you to find me. Do you have any additional info on Rebecca and George Brennan?

Don't know what you have been able to find up to now, but here's a little bit which might help... (Note: the spelling found in the records has been respected)

In the 1891 Canadian Census of Rawdon, Qc / Family #196 shows the following:
- Michael RYAN age 77
- Maggie DONAGHEY RYAN age 76
- Jeremiah RYAN age 29
- Maggie RYAN (Redmond, see note) age 24

In the publication for Ste-Julienne (Montcalm County) Qc (SGL), page 79:
- RAYAN (!) Jeremiah, son of Michael & Margaret Donahoe, from Rawdon
Marriage: 14 Oct 1890 Ste-Julienne
- REDMOND Maggie, daughter of James & Jane Skelley

Also in Ste-Julienne, you will find the marriage of 2 children of Jeremiah and Maggie:
- Agnès m. 20 Jun 1921 William Donelly
- Rose Ann m.07 Oct 1924 Hugh Duffy

In Rawdon, Qc, another daughter of Jeremiah & Maggie(SGL #30) page 89:
- Mary Jane m. 26 Aug 1913 Levi Rivet.

As for Margaret and others (Jeremiah's sisters), also in Rawdon (SGL #30 page 89):
- Margaret, daughter of Michael & Margaret Donaghoe (!)
m. 30 Jan 1877 to Thomas Pierce
- Mary, daughter of Michael & Marguerite Donahoe
m. 07 Feb 1864 to James Nollin
- Catherine, daughter of Michael & Margaret Donahoe
m. 28 Apr 1874 to Felix Quinn

Thomas PIERCE & Margeret (!) RYAN PIERCE with 5 children are also found in the 1891 Census of Rawdon, family #213.

Again, also in the SGL publication for Rawdon, Qc, you'll find some burials recorded for the Ryan Family:
- Jeremiah (spelled Jerrymiah!), age 71
d. 02 Jul 1929 & bur. 04 Jul 1929 Rawdon, Qc
as well as some of Jeremiah's children: Catherine Eva (10) in 1911, Georges William (69) in 1976, Jeremiah Alfred Joseph (1) in 1911, Michael in 1982 (age 79), Susan (46) in 1951 and finally Agnes (88) in 1985.

Another son of Michael & Margret Donaho (!) is also buried in Rawdon: John age 8 days in 1839.

As for Michael RYAN and his wife Margaret Donahue, who's marriage record is also found in Rawdon, I cannot find their burial info in the SGL publications for Rawdon, Ste-Julienne, St-Alphonse or St-Ambroise de Kildare, where one would expect to find them.

If one is to check the cemeteries of the area, I would suggest a visit to the St-Patrick Cemetery in Rawdon, and if not found there, there is an old abandonned Irish Cemetery in St-Ambroise-de-Kildare which might prove interesting. But with the amount of show we've had since early March, no one will be able to do that for another month at least.

Suzette Leclair
Board Admin

Thank you so much! Any idea how I could find the death/burial records for Michael and Margaret? They are in the 1891 Canadian Census but not 1901 so I'm guessing they died in that window. They would have been in their 80's so I can't imagine them leaving their home at that age to die somewhere else but I can't find them!

In the 1851 census for St Henri de Mascouch, there's a Mary BROWN, age 24, with a seven-month-old child named Eliza BROWN. There is no way to tell whether Mary is married or if Eliza is illigitimate. Mary is listed as Catholic and born in Ireland. Eliza is born at St. Henri.
I can not find a birth record for Eliza, nor a marriage for Mary in Drouin. If Eliza died young, that's not in Drouin either.
There is a possibility that this Mary is my husband's 2ggm, who had relatives in the St Calixte area. She married in New York State in 1857, but returned to Quebec for the baptism of her second son at New Glasgow (Anglican) in 1861.
I am looking for any ideas about sources that might help me learn whether the St Henri Mary was married and whether Eliza may have died young, as our Mary did not have a daughter in New York as of the 1860 census. (BROWN was her maiden name).

Hi! Would you or someone you know be interested in checking the old St. Patrick/St. Patrice Catholic cemetery for me? I'm trying to find the death/burial info for my Great-Great Grandparents. I have not found the death info in the Drouin but they lived about 65 or 70 years on the same farm so I really doubt that they moved in their elderly years! I'm thinking that perhaps they are buried in the cemetery. Their names are Michael and Margaret Ryan...her maiden name was Donohue/Donohoe/Donahey/Donaghey/Donagy/Donaghy--believe it or not, I've seen it spelled all those ways---I still don't know which is correct! Their youngest child was Jeremiah, born in 1860 and he took over the family farm. I have Michael and Margaret in the Drouin until 1890/91 census then they disappear. Thank you!
