Philomene Beausoleil (Louis & Marie Cassibo), born abt 1847 Lower Canada
I am looking for Philomene Beausoleil (angliczed to Boseley). Her death certificate says that she was born in Lower Canada in 1847 and moved to Upper Canada (Hastings county, Ontario) in 1852. Her parents are listed as Louis Beausoleil and Marie Cassibo. Since most of the other French people in this part of Hastings county came from Berthier (or Sorel), I am posting this message here. Cassibo does not look French, and the P.R.D.H. does not recognize it, but the other Cassibo's in the area are listed as French on the census. Does anyone have an idea of where this family came from and what Cassibo was before it was anglicized?

In Berthier County the other name for Beausoleil : Sylvestre and also Malboeuf.
Cassibo : That could be Casaubon. Casaubon could be Didier and Dostaler.

Merci, Claire. Casaubon gives me the name to search for.

Thanks for your message.
I am trying to track down Philomene Lavallee, and I don't know her birth name. She married (1) my gg uncle Alexis Laurence in 1870. They lived outside Stoco, near Tweed. They had one child together, Philomene, born in 1871. He died shortly thereafter. She then married George Lavallee in 1875. I have her death certificate. It is from Tweed. She was born in 1847 in Lower Canada and died in Stoco, Ont. in 1827. Her death certificate says clearly that her mother was Mary Casibo and her father was Louis .... The last name is obscure, but it begins with B. I have guessed that the name is Beausoleil, but I am far from certain of that. So, I am looking for a Louis B who married Marie Cassibault sometime before 1847 in Lower Canada (probably Sorel, possible Berthier where the Laurences come from), and moved to the Tweed area after that.
I am also looking for the daughter. She was probably raised as Philomene Lavallee, but she was a Laurence. Any help you can give me from either location, Tweed or Sorel, would be appreciated.

The Philomene b. 1847 last name Barault/berieu spelt diff ways of course first name Vilanise Celinise Vilhance. She is found living with Peter Cassibo and Mary in 1860 Hungerford census. Is a sponsor to baptisms in St. Carthagh records. Yes her death certif. indicates born Qc other census say Ont. This family came somewhere Qc Probably her birth father died when she was obviously <5yrs old. Coincidently there is an Elizabeth 1st sp. John Cassidy 2nd spouse Daniel Casler The second marr. lists parents as Exor(Peter?) and Mary Leblanc. This may be Mary maiden name or from another marriage can't find record in Qc indicating such. They all were prob. in Qc in 1850. Also on one of the marr. certif for Lavalle her name is listed as Beauclar but that is only one source that is quite different.

Re: Philomene Beausoleil (Louis & Marie Cassibo), born abt 1847 Lower Canada
Hi: I have been tracing back my family history and there are various spellings of Cassibo, my fathers oringal spelling was Cassibault which is french. My family is from Hasting County, specifically the Hungerford Township, Tweed, Bogart, Sulphide and Otter Creek area.

Re: Philomene Beausoleil (Louis & Marie Cassibo), born abt 1847 Lower Canada
Cassibault- Cassibo are phonetic approximations of the French-Canadian Casabon or Casaubon. The Dostaler dit Casabon family was from the Lanaudière region of Quebec.
