Hi,
From 1675 to 1730, it was named "States" in French "États" de Savoie. Victor-Amédée de Savoie was a Savoyard but his mother was French born in Paris. He was too young so his mother had the Regency. Please read the article on Wikipedia and you will understand the complexity in those days. Here is the link to the article in English.

Hi Jack,
Well, assuming she was born a little before 1681 in Savoie, then she was Savoyarde!
Neither French, nor Swiss.. ;-)
Nowadays, do the French government assume that is accepted for a French citizenship? I can't tell.

I think you should read about the requirements for jus sanguinis. To get you started:

If I read it well, Jus sanguinis starts with the parents of the child, not an ancestor 400 years old.

Am I right?
