Thank you! Both of these new explanations make a lot of sense. I didn't know that they used barges on the canals in the Chambly area. That's an interesting piece of history. Additionally, the explanation about cart owners selling goods out of their traveling carts makes sense, too because on the US side of the border about 40 miles away, a relative owned a store where they sold all kinds of things that could be sold in the carts. Perhaps they cooperated with each other for trade purposes. Thank you again!
