I am searching the Boudreau line and trying to figure out how it connects to the Coloumb and Coulbron lines.

I am especially looking for info on the following:

Ausith Boudreau-Coloumbe m. to Francois Smart Leveille-Tyriest.

Ausith was born illegitimate, her godparents on the Canadian records list Pierre Boudreau and Marie-Ausite Coloumbe. I have not been able to find her siblings.

Ausith and Francois Smart had 9 children who all lived in the Clinton County, New York area. Mainly Saranac and Plattsburgh.

Nelson
Joseph
Alfred
Rose
Julia
Amelia
Harriet
Henry
Josephine

Nelson was married to Louisa Coloumbe who was from Canada. I am interested in her connection to the Boudreau-Coloumbe line, but have been unsuccessful in finding it.

Please contact me if anything looks familiar.

Melissa
AITKENS, Luella Florence
AITKENS, Luella Florence - 89, Dartmouth. It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and mother-in-law on Saturday, August 18, 2007. Born in 1918 on Entry Island, one of a chain of islands in the Magdalen Islands, she was a daughter of the late Ruben and Sarah (Dickson) Welsh. Her main role was that of a homemaker and mother who raised 11 children, all but one being born at home. In those early years living on a small island in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, mostly isolated from November to April, life was a real struggle. When called upon, she served as a midwife and gave whatever help she could to the sick and elderly. In her later years, she moved to Dartmouth and lived with her daughter, Doris and son-in-law Irvin. She thoroughly enjoyed her weekly Saturday night dance at the Newfoundland Club. She is survived by daughters, Kay (Jack), Clinton, Ont.; Reta (Felix), Charlottetown, P.E.I.; Alice, Dartmouth; Doris (Irvin), Dartmouth; Cathy (Brian), New Richmond, Que.; sons, Bob (Kim), Dartmouth; Tony (Marilyn), Dartmouth; Barry (Judy), Entry Island; Ruben (Joyce), Entry Island; Stan (Sharon), Musquodoboit; Carl, Charlottetown; brother, George (Avis), Charlottetown; sister, Mildred, Charlottetown; 29 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Fred; infant daughter, Avis; infant granddaughter, Patsy; sisters, Emily and Alice; brothers, Allan, Lloyd, Charlie, Ernest, Bun, and Foster. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St., after which she will be taken to her beloved Entry Island and laid to rest beside her husband. Donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross.
Please read my response to your e-mail under the heading of the Obituary of Reuben which follows. I couldn't find a more appropriate place to post it.

By the way, your e-mail address is "non-existent" according to my cable company, so for that reason, I could not reply to your original question about Mr. Welsh. You should check into that. Dennis Boudreau

OBITUARY-----Forster Reuben WELSH

WELSH, Foster Reuben WELSH, Foster Reuben - 78, Caribou Island, Pictou Co., passed away at home on Thursday, July 5, 2007, following a brief illness. He was born on Entry Island, les Iles de la Madeleine, Que. Foster spent his working life on and near the ocean, having been a fisherman as well as working in various other sectors of the industry. He was a lighthouse keeper on Entry Island for four years, transferring to the Caribou Island Lighthouse in 1971, from where he retired in 1990 when the light there was automated. He was also a talented carpenter, having built his own home and many others. He kept busy for many years after his official retirement, helping many Caribou Island cottagers maintain their homes. His family and many friends also benefited from his broad range of knowledge and abilities. His hobbies included building model boats, some of which have been displayed locally and abroad and which always drew praise from those who admired his eye for accuracy and detail. Foster enjoyed playing darts, having won numerous trophies, awards and prizes in weekly local league play as well as in tournaments in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. He was an associate member of Branch 35, Royal Canadian Legion, Westville. In later life he became an avid fan of the dance floor, enjoying frequent visits to the Newfie Club in Dartmouth and many other spots where the music stirred his spirit and seemed to loosen age-stiffened joints. His greatest passion, however, was his family. His love for and devotion to them were evident whether he was with them in person or only in thought. Foster`s world was shaken when his lifelong love, his wife Amy, became ill and died nearly three years ago. It was the love and support of his family and friends that gave Foster the strength to carry on when his world seemed its darkest. Foster is survived by his children, Donna (Gordon) Stiles, Scotsburn; Steven, Hunter River, P.E.I.; Allen (Debbie), Churchville, Pictou Co.; Richard (Theresa), Pictou; Marcia (Don) Traboulsee, West Chezzetcook; Joe (Brett), Caribou Island; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, George, Charlottetown; sisters, Mildred Cassidy, Charlottetown; Luella Aitkens, Dartmouth; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, the former Amy McLean; brothers, Allen, Lloyd, Charles, Ernest, Bernard (Bun) Chennell; sisters, Emily and Alice. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Saturday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, with funeral 2 p.m. Monday, July 9, in St. James Anglican Church, Pictou, with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating, assisted by Pastor Ryan King. Burial will be in Waterside Cemetery. A reception will follow from 3-6 p.m. in Caribou District Fire Hall, Three Brooks Road. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, or to any charity.

Help! Hit brick wall and desperately need help (especially from Dennis). Looking for info on:

NELSON THERIAULT b. abt 1850-1854 on either Magdalen Islands or Pointe-aux-Esquimaux (Havre-St.-Pierre) or Coast of Labrador.

married MARY ADELINE ROSE GUILMET (variously Mary A., Rose, or Adeline (death certificate) b. 1863. Daughter of Sam Gilmet and Caroline Noel or Campeau.

1881 Census (listed as Terrioux) shows them on Pointe-aux-Esquimaux.
1901 Census and 1911 Census in Cornwall, Stormont, Ontario and died there. Death records available on ancestry.com.

Wondering if Nelson is son of, or related to a Charles Terrioux living nearby in 1881. I can provide more info if needed. Any help much appreciated.

Where on 1851 census?

Dennis, I hope you can help me again like you did earlier this year on my Theriault line. Your help was invaluable.

I recently resubscribed to ancestry.com on a monthly basis because they indexed the 1851 census. However, in doing a search, I couldn't find my line of Theriaults who would have been living on Magdalen Islands at the time.

I'm wondering if the Magdalen Islands were missed in the census that year? I went to the http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/1851/001005-200.... website where they show the districts and subdistricts for 1851. I don't see the Islands listed anywhere.

From researching, I know that the Islands were never part of a county, but rather, were an independent municipality. So I don't know where on the census I would find them.

Would you take a look at that website and scroll through the districts and also subdistricts to see if you think they may have been included in any of the places listed there. I'm willing to look through the census page by page if I could narrow it down to a district or subdistrict.

Thank you very much any any help you can give me (or anyone else who knows).

Melanie

Rik and all,

When posting OBITuaries, please spell out the complete word or use: OBIT rather than ORbit (an elliptical path around the sun or a planet). I've been told the misspelling of this word slows down the indexing for researchers, and I don't know how to correct it to what it should be. Thanks, Dennis

I'm searching for the family of my grandfather John Cyr who was born on the islands around 1889. I have very little information about him but according to our family records and the census of 1911 he was born in May of 1889. He moved to Nova Scotia at a young age to work in the coal mines . First to Sprihghill and then to Westville, where he died in 1978. He was married to Margaret Brideau who I assumed was born in New Brunswick but the census refers to her as coming from Quebec. My grandfather's obituary states that he was the son of John Cyr sr and that he was survived by a sister Madeline and a brother Harry who also lived in Nova Scotia. There is no mention of his mother's name. I must assume that Harry is not his given name and that both my grandfather and great grandfather were Jean not John. As a youngster I remember my grandfather telling me that he was a fisherman and for some reason I always thought that his name was Joseph. According to the census of 1901 , which I discovered on this form, there is a Jean Cyr on Etang du Nord with a son named Joseph, but there is no mention of a Madeline or Harry. Could this be my family? If there is any one who could shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You

Hello, I'm looking to find any information available on my ancestor, Jean-Baptiste Desjardins, a navigator. He was married twice. First to Marie Doyle (born in 1807) in 1835 at Havre-aux-Maisons (Îles-de-la-Madeleine) and then to Brigitte Boudreau (born in 1814) February 7, 1843 at Havre-aux-Maisons. If you have any information about the place of birth and/or the parents of Jean-Baptiste Desjardins, it would make my day! I don't know when he was born, but it is most probably in the beginning of the 1800's.

Thank you very much!

Jenny Desjardins

I don’t know if you’ll be able to help me, I’m trying to locate a lady by the name of Sheila Jean Clark (maiden name Dunn), she was born in Magdelan Islands June 6, 1940. She at some point, probably around 1958, married someone with the last name of Clark, they had 3 children between 1958 and 1961, and divorced in 1977 in Gaspe Quebec. She then moved to Alberta. She worked at a place called King’s Canteen I believe prior to 1977. If you have any information, or could possibly direct me to someone who may know her or one of her children it would be greatly appreciated

Looking for information on a Patrick Coleman who used to have a market on Macomb Street in Grosse Ile. The market was later sold and named Fisher Market. Mr Coleman apparently also had a street named after him. Any info as to children etc would be appreciated

Leandre Parent and Clara Pratt, would have left the area bout 1920 to 1923.

Trying to find more specofic location area, fairly certain they were from your area.
Thanks
Denis
Brampton, on

About this Message Board

Welcome to this new subdivision of the Gaspé–Îles-de-la-Madeleine Message Board. I have volunteered to be this board’s administrator, and am willing to answer any questions you might have on the Magdalen Islands and their families as I am an expert on the families from this area. If I tell you they do not come from there, you can believe me without reservation.

I am also willing to do SIMPLE searches from the parish registers and from the 1881 and 1901 censuses, all of which I have access to, to about 1925 or so. The Catholic parishes consist of Havre-Aubert (1794), Havre-aux-Maisons (1821), Étang-du-Nord/LaVernière (1840), Bassin (1870), Grande-Entrée (1900), Grosse-Île (consists of the Anglican registers for Entry Island, Grindstone, Grosse-Île, Old Harry and Brion Island, 1858).

The Islands’ population consists of about 90% French-speaking (mostly descendants of Acadian origin) and about 10% English-speaking residents. Please keep your questions to the point, and please do NOT ask for large volumes of information, as my time is limited. I will post pertinent messages from time-to-time regarding items of interest to the researchers. If I feel an answer to a certain question is of a personal nature or the answer falls within the perimeters of confidentiality, I will gladly e-mail the answer to you privately.

Hoping to hear from you, then, and to help answer your questions, Sincerely, Dennis Boudreau (Board Administrator)
