Marie,

Was she a Magdalen Islander? Names are not familiar to me. If she lived in Yarmouth, NS, you should probably post your question on that message board.

Thanks. Dennis

Dennis...Thanks for the response. I honestly don't know if she was a Magdalen islander. All I know is that she was born in District # 42, Yarmouth, Sub-District U-5, Yarmouth on 1-14-1884. Sorry for posting in the wrong place..this is totally new to me. I'll try again! Marie

Hi again, Marie,

There is a Muise/Miousse family at the Islands, but these descend from the Muise family from Cheticamp (on Cape Breton Island), NS.

Your branch is from the Yarmouth County, NS area (other end of the province), nearer to Massachusetts. There is a message board for there under Nova Scotia, and don't forget to post at the Muise Message Board on Rootsweb as well. Someone there may have an answer to your question. Good luck and

Best regards, Dennis

Hi,

Was able to get the line thanks to Reuben's death record and the 1901 census:

He died at Belleville South, NS 30 Dec 1939 (74y, 2mos., 28d);
born NS 2 Oct 1865 (same date as in the 1901 census of Yarmouth County)!
husband of Elizabeth Doucet
son of Simon Muise & Anne Doucet, so here's his line back, which you can find at the enclosed link down to Simon:

Hi Dennis..thank you for all your work. I looked in the 1901 census...the spelling of the first name is just slightly different...it's Ruben..DOB 10 Sept. 1860, truckman, yarmouth NS. But I don't know how to find his parents. I've read his wife Elizabeth was also a laundress. Help. Please. Marie

Disregard what I gave you as the lineage above!

I went back to the Nova Scotia Archives (online), and found 3 Reubens (which is the correct spelling! not Ruben, the census taker's take on it from the sound). Of these,

1- died in the almshouse in Argyle in 1928 (57y), no other info listed

2- the one I gave you previously (d 1939) based on the mention of a wife, Elizabeth "Doucet"

now this one, whom I believe is the correct man:

Reuben Muise,
born Yarmouth, NS 12 Mar 1865
d Yarmouth, NS 28 Jul 1949 (84y, 4m, 16d)
bur. Yarmouth 1 Aug 1949
widower (but doesn't say who)
son of Vital Muise & Rosalie Muise

FYI, all dates given in census records are usually off by some years, and depending on who gave the info to the census taker, it could be totally incorrect. If Reuben didn't give it himself, perhaps who did was mistaken. Also in death records, the informant gives the information, and they too could be mistaken, so one has to search for other clues. NEVER take a census date as the correct one, as too many people back then were either illiterate or unschooled, or didn't care about recorded vital data the way we do today.

Your Elizabeth (wife of Reuben, so stated in her death record!) was

Elizabeth Clements!
born Eel Brook, NS 26 Mar 1861
d Yarmouth 8 Feb 1935 (73y, 7 mo, 13d)
bur. Yarmouth Feb 1935.
daughter of Simon Clements and Ann Smith
>>> informant was her husband, Reuben Muise of Yarmouth (STILL ALIVE)!!!

So, the above third Reuben HAS to be her husband!! who died a WIDOWER in 1949!

As for the rest of the lineage, you'll have to post at the Muise message board or Muise Genforum at genealogy.com to get the rest. I couldn't find them in an initial search. Sorry I can't help more but the Muise family from this area of Nova Scotia is not my expertise, plus I don't have the resources to fully help in your search. At least you have some solid evidence here to get you going.

Thank you very much for all your help. I realize it took a lot of research and I really appreciate it. On the census's, I did take the information given as gospel. That was the information I worked completely with. I'll be more aware from now on. It was very kind of you to help me.
