Element m Churchward, Pte-St-Pierre, Gaspésie > Le Rocher-Percé
I understand that Joseph Element and Elizabeth Churchward had several children including Elizabeth Element who married Maurice Hurley in Douglastown Quebec in about 1803. Do you have any information on her or her siblings?

Re: Element m Churchward, Gaspésie >Le Rocher-Percé
Hi both of those couples are my ancestors (Agathe is also a distant cousin of mine).William and Agathes Daughter Angelique married Charles Blais. They had a son Godfrey. Godfrey Blais married Marceline Clouthier. They had a son Josephe Blais who married Lucie Gonthier(Gauthier). They had a Daughter Alexina who married Alexandre Guillemette. Their daughter Helene(Eylene) was my grandmother. I am stuck at Joseph Element and Elisabeth Ann Churchward. Can you help me continue the line? Thanx for any help you can give.

Element is thought to have been a ex-soldier and an Englishman. Churchward may be linked to Openshaw and Sutherland, poss. to Jersey, CHI and England also.

Re: Element m Churchward, Pte-St-Pierre, Gaspésie > Le Rocher-Percé
I am a decendant of Joseph Ellement and Ann Churchward, Elizabeth Ellement who married Maurice Hurley, was not one of their children, she was probably Joseph's sister. I have information on the Ellement or Element's if anybody needs information. Joseph's son Thomas is my line of decendants.

Re: Element m Churchward, Pte-St-Pierre, Gaspésie > Le Rocher-Percé
Hi there- I realize this is an old post but I just found it! I am also a decendant of Thomas Element. Thomas and Elizabeth Baker had James Element b. 1800 in Gaspe. m. Bridget McGrath july 1847. They had Margaret Element b. 1859. Margaret was my Great Great Grandmother. I don't have really any info on Elizabeth Churchward other than she was born in 1760 in Gaspe. I got a little stuck on Elizabeth Baker also. One person had a family tree listing John Baker dit Blondit as her father but I have seen conflicting information on that also. I no longer have a subscription to Ancestry so If you have any info on these families that you would like to share I would appreciate it! Thank you! Kristi klswanky@comcast.net

Re: Element m Churchward, Gaspésie >Le Rocher-Percé
Joseph Element and Elizabeth Ann Churchward are my ancestors too. I have been researching them since 2005. I have many leads but nothing concrete. Would like to share & compare info with other descendants. I am descended from Henry Element & Marie-Anastasie Plourde. I am also a descendant of Jean-Guillaume Girard et Marie Henley and many other Malbaie-area Gaspé surnames. Annie

Re: Element m Churchward, Gaspésie >Le Rocher-Percé
Hi, Thanks for your email. I have traced the Element origins to the Hertfordshire and Herefordshire area, but have not been able to trace our Joseph Element from Gaspé in Québec, Canada to anywhere in the U.K. He is said to have been English and he worked as a carpenter with the British military on Carleton Island, Canada (now part of USA) in 1780 and that's about all the info we've got. The records back in the 1780's in Gaspé were few and some of those have been destroyed over the years due to fire, etc. We do know that there were a few Joseph Elements born in your area around the 1760's, and there is one whose father was Zachariah and mother was said to have been Elizabeth maybe Taylor. Some researchers here will tell you that this Joseph is our man. But since no one has yet been able to connect any U.K. Joseph to the Gaspé Joseph with any sort of documentation to back it up, I can't say that we know which one was ours. All of us Element descendents here would love to know though. Do you have any info about a Joseph Element who left your area prior to 1778 and may have a connection to one of the Royal Naval dockyards? Also, does your wife's family also have extremely curly hair and migraines like some of our Elements? Regards, Annie
