St-James Anglican Church in Cape Cove, Percé
Hi I am intersted in the history of the people associated with the Anglican church in the Cape Cove - Cap d'Éspoir area.
If any of you have any photos, stories, data or anything else you care to share, let me know.
If we can get a few volunteers, I would like to prepare a map of the cemetery this summer.

Re: St-James, Cape Cove -Bunton
Hi M. Garrett,
apparently, there is an Archibal Kerr buried in tha cemetery, it is not sure who his wife was, either Brock or Alford. Would you have info on this.
Archibald was from Ste-Adélaïde-de-Pabos and would have been buried on feb 12, 1881. Cape-Cove
On aug 23, 1881, an Archibald Kerr, widower of Petit-Pabos married Susan-E. Bunton, spinster of Little River. Percé
On march 2 1867, an Archibald Alfred Kerr was baptised to Archibald and Mary-Ann Alford, courier of Petit Pabos. Percé
Thanks

Hi
We may be witnessing a classic case of too many people with the same name. Joseph Garrett married Flora Burton in 1866. She was the daughter of Willam Burton and Sarah Kerr of New Richmond. Sarah Kerr was the daughter of Archibald Kerr b c1794 and Isabella Hogg b c1794.
Both Archibald Kerr father and son were postal couriers. I would assume that the people you metion are the decendants of this first Archibald Kerr.
My notes have this Archibald Kerr living in Nouvelle in 1871 and working as post master. He died in 1877. He and his wife were living with a 15 year old Archibald Kerr ( b 1855) in 1871.
I will check to see if I can add more to this later. Are you related to these Kerr families ?

Hi
Just checked the 1871 census for PABOS.
Kerr, Archibald age 45 b c1826; mail courier Mary Ann age 44 born NB b c1827 Thomas 18 Alice 15 Mary Ann 8 Francis G 11 Andrew Alfred 4
I will check the 1881 census and post if there is new information

Hi
I will check this summer but after checking the 1871 and the 1881 census reports for Pabos; I would venture to say that the person buried feb 21 1881 may have been Mrs Archibald Kerr (Mary Ann Alford) and that Mr Archibald Kerr remarried in August of the same year.
The Archibald Alfred Kerr b 2 march 1867 that you mention is listed as Alexander Alfred in the 1871 census and as Alfred in the 1881 cessus.

Hi,
I have a correction to make, there is a document (on the net, go Google and type Archibald Kerr) stating that the Archibald Kerr buried in Cape Cove, from Pabos, was married to a lady Hogg, like you are mentionning. But the Percé registres , for that church, 1824-1884 mention Archibald Kerr, d. feb 12 1881, buried in Cape Cove, no mention of his wife, nor age.
The 1861 census mentions Archibald Kerr, mail courrier, from Scotland, aged 39 married to Mary-Anne (Alford it would be, from NB) living in Seigneurie de Pabos. Kids were Flora, Emma, Thomas, Alice and Andrew.
Thanks for the research.
I have one for you, a mystery:
Michel Ward m. ca nov 1845 in NB Louise Dupuis. They moved to Grande-Rivière and lived their and in Port-Daniel until moving back to Miscou around 1870 with all his family.
His presumed brother Joseph married (presumably in NB) to Élizabeth Dupuis lived and stayed in Grande-Rivière from 1840. Louise Dupuis was godmother to one kid born before 1845 in Miscou.
We think the father and mother of Michel were Ebenezer Ward and Mary Gray. Mary Gray converted to catholicism, in dec 1857 in Grande-Rivière, the widow of Joseph Ward. She was buried in Grande-Rivière in nov 1864. One son, William married to Marie-Louise Bezeau in Grande-Rivière in 1832, the parents were identified as Abraham Ward and Mary Gray from New-Carlisle.
We know these Wards were not catholic from marriage documents. We presume Ebenezer died without having converted but he is buried where?
In Jaquet River, NB, there was a Ward family, but no mention of Ebenezer and Mary Gray except for a land they sold there in 1836.
In 1829, a James Ward from Jacquet River married Emily Sawyer (James and Esther Hall) in New Carlisle. They then moved to Miscou. Some kids were baptised in New-carlisle when they were visiting.
Up to now, there is no baptism or marriage documents identifying Michel and Joseph being brothers and being the sons of Eb. and Mary Gray, except by association.
In no way, we have been able to identify Élizabeth and Louise Dupuis either.
We do not find the death records of Michel and his wife, which happened in NB, Miscou region, before 1881. We may have found Louise's headstone dating her death around 1873. If you have infos on Ebenezer, I would appreciate a lot.

Hi Raymond,
As you know my greatgrandmother Esther Garrett is buried in the said cemetery. She was the spouse of Roderick Mc Neil a catholic buried in Grande Rivère. That could explain why her tomb is the last one and alone on the south east side of the cimetery. One could believe that at this time she had been buried right outside the cimetrery. In front of her tomb, going from south to north, rest many Garretts related to her.
If I am in good health next summer, it would be a pleasure to give you a hand preparing the map of the cimetery.
William ( Billy ) Mc Neil

Hi
Thank you for your kind offer. When Esther was buried, the church may have been on the top of the hill where the graveyard is now. The church was rebuilt in 1875 at the bottom of the hill. Gary Briand has also expressed an interest in the church,

Re: St-James Anglican Church in Cape Cove, Percé
Hello, While looking through my parents pictures I came across a picture from perhaps the 1940's-50's of Cape Cove Church (somebody had written it on the back POV from the Rectory verandah). Then I came across your name when searching for a connection. As my dad was an Anglican priest, I thought perhaps a friend of his may have been rector there. And I could help but notice we had the same last name. Allison Garrett agarrettgirl@gmail.com
