Thank you, I think this is very likely the right connection for Annie Steele Thomson.

The oral history that came from Ida Morton Carter is that Annie Steele Thomson was from Montreal and moved to the Gaspé the year she married John Carter.

JP, As you will know, Hawkesbury, Canada West = Ontario. This ties in with a census return for 1871 QC Montreal East - St Louis Ward 263/295: Wm A Thomson 55 * SCT Presbyt Scotch Bookkeeper Widower; daughters Jessie 21 nee Ontario [died 1 May 1910. m. Charles SJ Phillips 1873]; Mary 18 nee Ontario; Annie 16 nee Ontario; and son William (male) 12 ne Ontario. ---Charles & Jessie had dau. Annie Morton Phillips * 7 Nov 1874 B. rg Baptist Olivet 19 July 1875 - d 28 Dec 1967 and son Charles Edward Henry Phillips * 8 May 1878 B. Baptist Olivet - died 1956. The Phillips parents and children are buried at Mount Royal. ---The other Jessie Thomson (1836-1891), wife of Colin McIver, was not the dau, but poss the sister of William Allan Thomson. All we have not done is look for Hawkesbury census 1861 which might assist to give us a burial record for Mary Ann Morton. -Aldo
