My Great Grandmother was a Julia Dickson. My mother's family all hail from Grosse Ile. There could be a common relation.

Lisa,

All these families from Entry Island are related to those at Grosse-Ile (Leslie & Old Harry) and Grindstone (today's Cap-aux-Meules). Just various branches, but they all started out at Grosse-Ile. Was your great-grandmother Julia Matilda Dickson, daughter of James and Margaret (McLean) Dickson, born 7 Dec 1875? If so, she was actually born at Entry Island according to the Grosse-Ile registers. She married at St. Luke's Church at Grindstone on 20 Sep 1894 to James Robert Keating (orig. Keaton) son of Robert & Eve (McLean) Keating. Is this the same person you are speaking of? As she seems to be the ONLY Julia Dickson I have found in my notes here. If this IS her, hope this info helps. Dennis Boudreau

Wondering if you have further information on James Dickson; I believe he is a brother to my Great Grandfather, George H. Dickson who moved to Maine during the 1850's.

I can only give you scant details without reproducing my book, as it is protected by a copyright from being posted in its entirety on the Net.

James and George were sons of David Dickson and Nancy Cassidy. I don't know their parents' names. I do know David died at Entry Is. on 10 Mar 1869. James and George are two of 8 children: Nancy 1820, David 1822, George 1829, Jane 1831, James 1833, Jacob 1835, Thomas 1836, and Benjamin 1841. George and James and their younger siblings were all baptized in the Catholic Church at Havre-Aubert (guess there was no priest at the time for the Anglican community); George born 6 Aug 1829, bapt. 14 Aug 1835 (6y., 8 mos. old) I have no further info on him, so he probably does belong to you; and James born 25 Apr 1833, baptized 14 Aug 1835 (3yrs, 3 mos., 20d. old).

James married Margaret McLean (don't have her parents) ca 1862. He died at Grosse-Ile (Magdalen Is.) on 20 Apr 1920.

James and Margaret had 14 children:

William 1863; Nancy 1864; Margaret 1866; Elizabeth 1867; Mary 1868; James 1871; Melinda 1872; George 1874; Julia 1875; Rebecca 1877; Esther 1879; Hannah 1880; Reuben 1882 and Daniel d. 1892. William, James, George and Alexander still have descendants on the Islands.

Would appreciate whatever info you can give me on George and where he went to Maine, if he married and names of children. When my CD is ready, I can contact you as to where to buy a copy and learn more, if that's okay. Dennis

A little dated but came across your message. My ancestors are McLean's from Entry Island and I would be interested in your book/CD if it is available. Interested in any history of Entry.

Gary,

If you continue further down on the message board, you'll find the appropriate address to order the CD. You can also access the order blank at

http://www.acadiancultural.org/dgim_of.htm

You'll have to print the form out and mail it to Quebec City to order the CD, which depending where you live will take about a week or two to receive. I ask that you please respect the copyright on the information it contains, and not reproduce chunks of it online, as some have done without expressed permission of myself or my publisher. Also, please not that I am updating the CD as we speak but this newer version will not be available for at least another year or more, as it is 4,000 pages in length, and requires a great deal of time on my part to make the necessary corrections and additions to the text. If you find that you have anything to add to the text, I would appreciate receiving it from you, and will list you as the source of the information in my permanent files. Please document as best you can whatever you send. I don't need original material but references to your sources would be appreciated, in case I have further questions. Hope this helps.

You'll have to print the form out and mail it to Quebec City with your check to order the CD, which depending where you live will take about a week or two to receive.

I personally ask that you please respect my copyright on the information it contains, and not reproduce chunks of it online, as some have done without the expressed permission of myself or my publisher! This info took me well over 12 years to research and put together. Also, please note that I am updating the CD as we speak but this newer version will not be available for at least another year or two, as it is 4,000 pages in length, and requires a great deal of time on my part to make the necessary corrections and additions to the text. Dennis: I saw that you posted in October 2006 so I assume you are still on rootsweb. Back in 2004 you told me how to get your CD. I never was successful and I can not find it on the referenced www. Do you have any current ordering methods. Thank you.

Gary,

The old link at our Acadian Cultural Society was removed when I stepped down from the Presidency of this organization, at my request.

You can order the CD at the following Society (SGQ in Ste-Foy, QC), the publishers at the following web page:

http://www.genealogie.org/club/sgq/publications/repertoires....

Go to bottom and print out an order form (pfd format), and mail it in asking for the following item:

96CD Cédérom du répertoire des Îles-de-la-Madeleine, les 4 tomes du numéro 89 plus un supplément de 150 pages de révisions et mises à jour (frais de poste inclus) PC et MAC
It includes any and all supplemented info to 2003. Price is $75 CAN.

All proceeds go to this Society to help pay for their Drouin Collecton campaign. I get nothing from the sales of this work, except a renewal on my membership with them each year, and hopefully a smile from our ancestors for keeping them alive in some regard. Please respect my copyright on this work by not posting large portions of its contents to the Internet is all I ask of those who purchase it. In so complying, one also respects the authors' rights of all those who have shared information with me in compiling it. Happy New Year to you and your dad, Dennis
