Thanks to Clare Tapp's submission to the LDS website, I now have a family tree that dates back to Jean Jacques Bond and Louise Chicione Dit Cotton.

I am trying to find out more on Jean Jacques Bond. For instance, where did he come from in England. Where did he originally land...Newfoundland? What ship did he come over on? Was he indentured? When did he die...how? Did he come alone? Parents names?

I am trying to trace him back to Europe and I cannot find the missing link.

Thanks in advance to all that may have information. I am also willing to share anything I have collected.

Hi Susan,

the info I have, not proven, is that Jean or Jacques Bond came from Mortagne, Perche in France. He married Louise Chicoine ca 1763 in Percé, Qc. Ca. They had at least 4 kids:

Louis, B. Gaspé aug 12, 1764, m. Gaspé nov 3, 1796, Madeleine Laflamme (Joseph and Marie-Louise Thibault)

Joseph, B. Gaspé may 8, 1767, m. Percé sep 29 1788 Marie Laflamme (Joseph and Marie-Louise Thibault)

Aubin, B. Percé, july 16, 1772, m. Percé aug 23, 1793 Élizabeth O'Connors (Michael and Catherine McAlarey)

Louise, B. Percé, nov 15, 1781, m. Gaspé, oct 24, 1806, John Dunn (Jean and Marie Pagé)

Which one are you from?

Jean-Pierre

Thank you very much for the information. To answer your question, I am a decendant of Aubin Bond. My father (William Kenneth Bond) is from Toronto and my mother (Theresa Juliette Simms) is from Quebec (Sillery).

My grandfather is Sydney Ambrose Bond, decendant of Sydney Bond, who's father was Ambroise Bond.

There is folklore in my family about Helene Bond was a first nation indian. Have you heard this?

Are you from the Bond line? Do you live in Gaspe? Also, have you done any further research on Jean Jacques Bond?

Thanks,

Susan Bond Andrade

Hi Suzan,

I suppose you mean Ambroise and Hélène Fournier m. Pointe-St-Pierre jan 30, 1878?

As her being a native, it would be written on her baptism record, she was born ca 1862 in Percé.

Enjoy

The Bond ancestor's first name you cite may not be correct. The only reliable indicator is that Bond came from Newfoundland, and m Chicoine.

This couple had at least one other child, from whom I descend. She was Marie Bond born somewhere in Gaspe on 12 October 1775. She married Jean Baptiste Dumas.

Pointe-Saint-Pierre is the geographic name, with the wider name Barachois-de-la-Malbaie, referring to the sandbar. The English translation of the Place Name is "Point Saint Peter". Barachois is to the west, then Belle-Anse, Malbay, Point St Peter, St-Georges-de-la-Malbaie is directly to the north.
