Josiah Mann was from Petiticodiac (his death certificate was indexed wrong by the NB Provincial Archive people so I hadn't found it, but that problem was corrected yesterday.)

She died April 19, 1892, buried April 22, 1892.Witnesses: Daniel Harriman, George Harriman. On ne mentionne pas son âge. On la dit née en novembre 1846. At her death, she was named Mary Leona.

This is a never ending quest, to straighten out the Harrimans. What a chore! In looking at the many, many charts I've developed (to allow me to figure out who's where, and when!), I think I see a pattern for Florence, Margaret, and Marie Leona. Of the three, only Marie Leona was documented with a baptism/birth record. In 1861, I found 'Marg't' listed with the family. In 1871, I found 'Florence' listed with the family. In 1881, 'Marie' was listed. In 1891, 'Mary' was listed. Marie Leona has a death record listing her demise on 19 April 1892. And none of the names were found after that date in the censuses. So, the logical (if logic can apply in genealogy) thing to assume is that the 3 names belong to one person, baptized as Marie Leona. Now, if anyone has any data that suggests otherwise, I'd love to hear that. This family had too many kids, with interchangeable names!

I can verify that Daniel, son of Samuel Lee Harriman and Maria Angelique Lecouffe, married Marguerite Fairservice. They evidently had a son, who doesn't appear on censuses. I found a marriage between Willson Harriman, son of the above, to Annie Hannigan, a widow, in Sudbury District. It says he was born in New Carlisle, Quebec. The date was March 6, 1922. In the 1891 census, there is listed, with Daniel and Marguerite, and his sisters, a Wilson John, but it's been interpreted as a John Wilson, a 'dom'. The sisters are also listed as 'dom'. Here, this person is listed as age 13, which is about 3 years off. I haven't found a birth record or baptism record. Does anyone have any information about this person?

I note that in the 1901 census, there is only Marguerite, a widow, and an 'adopted son', named John W. Laszey. Is this the same person? He is not noted in the 1911 census. Marguerite has died, but I don't know where he is until he pops up and gets married.

Si donc Bienvenue.J'ai été mal à suivre ma famille canadienne hors Ancestry.com et nous avons trouvé un autre site qui semble avoir plus de renseignements, mais ensuite je n'ai rien pour vérifier ces informations. L'arrière plus loin, je vais les informations obtient nuageux c'est à dire les 12++ vivent les enfants en utilisant le même nom/s etc.. Il a été mentionné, dans ma famille, que nous puissions avoir des autochtone lineage (Indien) ; mais encore une fois, l'information a été très sommaire avec des informations incomplètes. Sur un même site, il semble que notre famille était une des familles françaises originales à la terre dans la région de Québec.Comment est-ce que votre recherche en cours ? Vous habitez au Québec ? Philippe Poirier (Pasteur et Angélique babin) est né à Bonaventure en 1847. Il a épousé à Percé Marie Coouture (Charles et Marie Elizabeth Joncas) née en 1847 à l'Anse-à-Beaufils, le 14 sep. 1880. Présents: Pasteur Poirier, père de l'époux, Placide Normand, ami de l'épouse. L'épouse signe Marie Couture.

En 1881, le couple était à Bonaventure.

Geneviève Georgiana nait le 15 déc. 1885 et est baptisée le lendemain à Bonaventure. Parrain: Murdick Bourdages, marraine: Reine Arsenault, ils signent. Le père est absent.

Pour le moment, je n'ai pas d'autres infos. Sont-ils déménagés ailleurs, et où? Ont-ils eu d'autres enfants à Bonaventure? Ailleurs? Quand sont-ils décédés? Où?

Looked at my charts again.
MARGARET appears in censuses: 1861, 1881, 1901
FLORENCE appears in : 1871, 1891, 1901
They could be the same person, appearing in opposite censuses.

JULIE appears in NO census
MELINA appears in 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901, 1911, allowing Julie to be the same person, but eliminating MARGARET and FLORENCE because they appear in censuses the same years that she appears.

So Julie and Melina could be one person, and Margaret and Florence could be one person. But they make two individuals, as they appear in the censuses.

I did look up the Magdalen Islands in Wikipedia:
The Magdalen Islands (French, Îles de la Madeleine) form a small archipelago in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence with a land area of 205.53 square kilometres (79.36 sq mi). Though closer to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, the islands form part of the Canadian province of Quebec.

I agree about it being mind boggling. And when some documents are not available, it's hard to determine who is using which name and when. The thought that it could be Margaret/Florence/Julie/Melina, well, I'm definitely boggled. Will see if there is any crossover of data that disproved that, but you may be right. I did have one error that I must correct, however: Margaret's birth date from the 1901 census was 29 August (not "April") 1847. My French is non-existent, and although my daughter took 4 years of French, that was 25 years ago. We both depend on a website for some translations. More to come, I'm sure!

As per writings of C.W. Dobson UE, December 21, 2005, John Ross was not proven to be an UEL.

Was prob. married to Catherine Morrisson. She died May 12, 1848.

He died before nov. 1833.

They had at least :

-Hector, B. ca 1792, d. Feb, 23, 1874
-Daniel, B. ca Dec,1800, d. March 12, 1875, married Mary Scott in 1842.
-John, B. ca 1802, buried Nov. 29, 1833
-Walter, married Margaret MacRae on March 16, 1824

Just did a little more looking, out of curiosity, and found Nathaniel Harryman in the 1881 census, living on the farm, alone, aged 25 according to the census. He was probably a little older than that.

Sorry to take a bit of time to get back here. I've been overwhelmed with personal 'stuff' here. In a quick reply, here's what I see:
Elizabeth 'Arimon': aka Betsey, possible twin of Mary, born 18 Oct 1839, Married Andrew Fairservice and as such, was found in all censuses between 1861 and 1911.

Julia Harriman, born 8 Dec 1844, baptized 23 May 1845. No other record found that could possibly match her. I assume that she died young.

Samuel Richard Harriman, born 13 Dec 1850, baptized 29 Dec 1850. In the story I have here, the neighbors reported that he had moved to the "Bay of Islands, the Magdalen Islands." I searched for his name in any records for Quebec, and came up with nothing.

Aubin Harriman, born 10 Nov 1854, baptized 31 Dec 1854. I found no other record for him anywhere. Perhaps he also died young.

Nathaniel Harriman, born 10 Nov 1853. Baptismal record: NONE. I only found his name in the censuses: 1861, 1871, 1901, 1911. According to the story I have, he never married, and lived on the family farm with Melena, who also never married.

I have not researched backwards to figure out the family of siblings for Samuel Lee Harriman. My connection came with his children. I know that, in the neighborhood that was interviewed by my ancestor, the story was told that he was related to the Harriman who made a lot of money in the railroads (never proven) and that they were related to Averil Harriman (when that family was contacted to confirm the relationship, they did NOT confirm it).

Folklore and oral history gain a mythic aspect with retelling, often to make the story match another model account of family origin, even when there is no factual value to the discourse.

The Bond ancestor in the Gaspe appears to be from Newfoundland in Cox's census (1777?) and Element appears from England to Quebec City around the same time, later settling nearby to Bond. Neither Bond nor Element claim Irish origin.

The Element men in the Gaspe married local gals, some of whom had an Irish ascendant further back. The Bond clan had many children who married locally as well.

J'ai quelques photos d'Albertine et de Laurette.
Le mari de Unice Bisson, Jos Ahern de cap d'espoir est photographié avec un billet de 100 $ ! l'homme le plus riche du coin.(mais je n'ai pas cette photo).

Il faudrait que je fouille mais j'ai la Photo de Pierre et Charlotte Joncas.

Albertine a eu 7 enfants de Élias Bisson et trois de M. Collin.
Je suis pas mal certain que Élias est décédé à Cap d'espoir.
Albertine est décédé à Pierrefonds sur l'île de Mtl, et enterré derrière l'église à Cap d'espoir. J'étais un des six porteurs du cercueil. Elle repose sur le haut de la colline avec une vue superbe sur l'anse.

Laurette Bisson s'est remarié avec Claude Samson. Les 2 sont décédés.

Il a épousé Albertine Lapierre (Pierre et Charlotte Joncas) née le 20 juillet 1898 à Grande-Rivière. Parrain: Albert MÉTHOT, marraine: Marguerite LAPIERRE (soeur).

Il y en a une, Opal qui a épousé Elwin Brownlow le 21 février 1942 à St-Jacques, Montréal. Je crois qu'elle est née Marie-Léopoldine le 23 déc. 1917. Pour le moment, je ne sais pas où sont décédés George-Elias et Albertine.

Je remarque aussi que Laurette s'est mariée une deuxième fois.

In one of my postings, I had suggested to check if Daniel Harriman could have been Samuel's brother. One of his daughter was named Eleska, unsual name, same as the one given to Marie Dilora (William Harrisson). This could be the proof that Samuel Harriman married to Marie-Angélique Lescoufles is the son of Ezekiel.

I've been very busy comparing all your entries here, and have worked up a spreadsheet, trying to get all the data lined up for Samuel Harriman and wife Marie Angelique Lecouffe. So far, here are a few notes: Witness for their marriage was John M. McKay. Elizabeth, born 1839, is also called Betsey. Mary, born 1839 (could have been a twin), died about age 8 and is buried in a little plot on the family farm. 'Jean' Harriman, born 1857, was thought to be female, is male John. Genevieve, born 1859, is also called Zelpha, Zelphia, Jane, and Sylvia. All the same person. Samuel Lee Harriman, the father, is buried in the plot on the family farm, with his daughter.

As for the crossover from Catholic to Presbyterian, the story my ancestor wrote stated that the reason for that was that the Catholic church was very hard to get to most of the year, and the Presbyterian church was much closer. So, the kids switched over.

Kudos for the person who posted all the wonderful resources for all the kids. That was an amazing amount of help for me. I will try to clean up my spreadsheet and then will post that information in the next few days.

Ce n'est pas complet, bien entendu. mais un départ.

À noter:

Il n'y a pas de naissance Courté à Shippagan de 1855 à 1861. Et je ne trouve pas la naissance de la plupart des endants d'Edouard et Modeste Duguay. Il a fallu me référer aux recensements de 1861 à 1901. Où ont-ils fait baptiser les enfants?

Suite à mes recherches, voici une possible conclusion:

En 1861, Edouard Courtois (34) et son épouse Prudente (35, née au N.-B.) vivent à la Nouvelle de Paspébiac.
D'ailleurs leurs enfants Didyme, Amos (Aimé), Alex(Alexander) et Philomène sont avec eux. De plus Philomène y
est né le 26 juillet 1860 et Geneviève le 13 juillet 1864. En 1860, on nomme leur mère Vénérande Duguay.

Ce qui est indicatif de la relation que pouvait avoir Edouard Courtey avec les autres Courtey/Courtois qui vivent
autour de lui.

Selon le recensement de 1861, Edouard serait né en 1827 et son épouse en 1826.

Il y a un Edouard Illégitime qui est baptisé le 29 août 1831 à Paspébiac. Parrain: Urbain Denys, marraine: Rose
Chapados.

Il est possible que notre Edouard soit issu d'une des filles ou des gars de Michel et Elizabeth Allain. Peut-être
d'Edouard né en 1816??

De plus, il n'y a pas qu'Édouard qui se soit marié au N.-B.

Il y a eu aussi:

Edourde Courte was my grandfather. His son, Rene Cote was my father. Noticed how he changed the surname when my father, his first son was born? We are all really Courtes, not Cote's.

My great grandfather's name is Edourde Courte from Shippegan, NB. He married on Jan. 12, 1919 to Elizabeth Mallet born Nov. 20, 1901 and died only at 18 years of age trying to give birth to their first child.

This seems to be where the lineage stops, however, my great grandfather moved from Shippegan to St. Arthur, NB. He remarried to a woman named Rebecca Lumsden and they had 8 children including my father Rene.

The reason why the lineage gets lost is because my great grandfather ran away as a young child as his mother had died and his father remarried. He ended up being raised by the Robichaud family and never returned to his family of origin. The story told was one where the step mother was mean to my great grandfather and this is why he ran away. In fact, he was so hateful and bitter towards his father for marrying the step mother, that when his first male child was born, he changed the surname from Courte, to Cote. So although the daughters Elizabeth, Hilda, Delisca, Roberta and Marie Mae all bare the maiden name Courte, both his sons Rene and Clairmont bare the surname Cote. Edourde did not legally change the surnames, he just entered the changed name on their bith certificates.
So there are Cote's out there that are descendents of the Courte family. That is why when anyone asks me if I am related to another Cote, I always say, "no".

Pierce's Old Hancock County Families book needs to be studied to be understood. Mention of Ezekiel Harriman, his wife, and all his children, including Samuel and his twin, Joseph, are on pages 82 & 83. You have to extract the information to get a complete list of children and siblings for Samuel - the names of the children of Ezekiel are set off alphabetically starting with "a)John" on page 83. Enlarge pages 82 & 83, print them off and then underline the people you are interested in. That's the best way. You will also see that Pierce has Samuel's marriage to Mary LeCouffe and the first seven of Samuel and Mary's children. I suspect that Pierce may have been in contact with a descendant or had access to material someone in Orland had compiled. I do not think he guessed at that marriage or at Samuel's parentage - his work has been proven over and over. I also wonder if Samuel parted from his family for a reason - who knows - but he is the only one of his siblings that left Hancock County. If you have access to any of the Canadian death records of the children of Samuel, you may find more info on Samuel to satisfy your needs. I don't have access to Canadian death records though I see that one daughter, Anne (Harriman) Harrison, died in Alpena MI in Nov 1926 and her death record might be easily obtained. The HFA has done alot of work on this family over the years so our HFA database has much info on them - I can't relay it all here in this forum. I can tell you that the prior HFA Harriman genealogist had no issue with Pierce's Old Hancock County Families because he checked the Orland ME town record books and found family records there that substantiated Pierce's findings. It seems very probable that Samuel was the son of Ezekiel and Mary (Craige) Harriman of Orland Me. Orland VR state Samuel, son of Ezekiel and Mary (Craige) Harriman was born 19 Nov 1800 in Orland ME. No Lee middle name for Samuel Harriman in that record and I have no idea where that middle name crept in. Ages for Samuel Harriman in the Canadian censuses of 1861 and 1871 match that birthdate quite well and add that he was born in the U.S. Perhaps someone has seen his gravestone and can check the engraving on that for possible birthdate confirmation. Our notes state Samuel died 25 Feb 1878 but with no source other than HFA researchers. I am quite happy to accept Pierce's detailing of Samuel's family and parentage as correct - he was a good researcher and I do not have access to Canadian records which might further prove parentage. Samuel, as you can see from Pierce's book, did not have a brother named William. Yes, the story as told by "Auntie B." Stewart is incorrect. It tries to match Samuel Harriman with the rich New York City Harrimans. I have come across many instances in my work on Harrimans where researchers tried to link to the NYC Harrimans because they were well known. I believe someone probably suggested to "Auntie B." Stewart that they had heard of the Harrimans of NYC and figured they were related. They aren't! I think that's about all I can offer you on this Harriman family. Some of my friends tend to jump to conclusion when they hit a brick wall. I usually ask them: "Can you prove it?". That makes them %?&*.

In the book about Hancok ancestors, I did not understand the listing of names where I found Samuel and Joseph being twins. Were there parents mentionned? What was the list about?

In the various postings on that forum, I do not remember Samuel's siblings being mentionned.

If in 1966, the lady in New Richmond mentionned Samuel's brother as being William, do you think she was mistaking? Almost 100 years later, she might have been. So, who was the brother then?

If Ezekiel was the father, Samuel baptized his kids with similar names: Daniel, etc, and then Marie-Dilora was replaced by Eleska/Celeska.

Samuel must have had written communications with his Maine family. It was mentionned he was well educated and had a library.
