Was surfing and came upon this site. I am looking for my family who is REID. I have aunts who are Matilda, but all born in Newfoundland.

The reason for surfing Bonaventure is that My GGGGrand father was supposedly named Bampton. Somewhere he changed his name to REID (Mothers Name). He married a lady by the name of RUMBOLT. Indications are she was from around Bonavista, Newfoundland. I cannot find her. I saw this BONAVENTURE (?) and wondered.

We are probably not related, but in the land of Geneaology, who knows?

Hello Don

I don't think we are talking about the same heritage. As far as I know at this time, my roots came from England and remained in Newfoundland, Canada. In my research I have noted that the name REID and REED are indeed the same people as most of the spellings are based on phonics because of the illiteracy back then. My Bill REID aka bampton IMMIGRATED to Newfoundland around 1820 +/-.

Melissa, Lorenzo and Ann Eliza had one son, Robert Smith Rumbolt born around 1873 in Labrador. They may have had more children but so far I haven't been able to find out any more than that. I'm still looking for more family and connections to Lorenzo and Ann Eliza Bradley Rumbolt. She was my grandfather's great Aunt. I have inquired to the archdiocese of Labrador where it was posted on the Gen Web site but have found no listings for them except this. His father may have been John or James from Battlr Harbor or Deep Water Cove. i'm trying to find out this and am stiffled so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Linda
