Joseph Ball and Olive Phelps were living in Norwich, VT, on 2 Nov 1795 when their son Orange Ball (I kid you not) was born. Orange was living in Stanstead, Quebec, as of 4 Aug 1816, when he was married in Derby, VT. (Derby is a neighboring town to Stanstead.) I have been tracking him because I am attempting to use a process of elimination to determine whether he or one Sylvester Ball is the father of a Fanny Ball I am interested in. In case you or anyone else is interested, Orange Ball died in Perry Township, Lake County, Ohio, on 29 Nov 1873.
If you want to trace Joseph and Olive, I would suggest that you look at the land records in Norwich. (Land records in VT are kept by towns or cities, not counties. You can get microfilm of them thru LDS libraries.) Often the deed by which a person first acquires property in a town will recite the previous residence.
