Surnames: Waldron, Pocklington, Large
Hi Everyone,

Not sure if anyone can give me some pointers as I am stuck in my search for my Great Uncle Edwin Waldron. He was born in Swindon, England, on 9th June 1911 and was looked after by the Waifs & Strays Society and I have details of his life in England prior to emigrating to Canada on 14th April 1927.

I have managed to find a grave for him at St John Cemetery, Richmond County showing that he died in 1997 and was buried with his wife Alice Y. Pocklington (possibly first name Marice b.1917? d. 1989) and their infant son Freddie (only date is 17th April 1941).

I cannot fins any other records for marriage, death or any other children they may have had (I cannot even find a record for Freddie).

I am having real trouble searching for records in Canada and am coming up with nothing. I have only just found out that he existed as my Great Gran never spoke of him or his older sister Elizabeth Large (also given up for adoption, moved to Canada, but returned to England so I have found lots of records for her).

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to try to make contact with any living family if there are any.

Many thanks

Zoe

I have found Edwin arriving in Canada on the Aluana on April 23, 1927. I also found the baptism of Marice Alice Yoland Pocklington, in Maricout, Quebec, on July 15, 1917. I really think the "Marice" is an error and it is "Marie". In 1935, Edwin was a labourer, living in Richmond, Quebec. In 1957, he was a farmer, still living in Richmond. He is there in 1965 and 1972, as well (from the voting list). And I see their their marriage - St Anne's Anglican Church, Richmond, Quebec, May 16, 1939. Edwin Waldron, bachelor, labourer, son of Emmaline Rose Large ? (the copy isn't good) and Alice Pocklington, spinster of major age, daughter of Auguste Pocklington. Both bride and groom of Melbourne, Quebec (just across the river from Richmond). And that's all I can find. No baptism for Freddie.

Will look some more. Cheers,

Susan

Hi Susan,

Thank you for that, I had not been able to find their marriage so that is a great help, and the mother of the grooms name confirms that this is my Great Gran's son (She was Rose Emily Large but changed her name and so it can be any combination). Can I ask where you found the marriage as I could not find anything. Was it on Ancestry or on a Canadian site (I am in the UK so not sure if this is causing a problem as I get directed to a sign up page even though I have a worldwide membership).

I think the son, Freddie, may have died at birth and the only date I have (from the grave stone) is 17th April 1941. I am really hoping that they had more children.

Thank you so much for your help in this. I am so excited to find out about Edwin as we never knew anything of my Great Gran's early life and I am trying to find out what happened to them and possibly make contact with family that I never knew about.

Thanks again.

Zoe

Glad that was helpful. I can't find either a baptism or a burial for Freddie. I checked again this morning. The marriage was on Drouin. It is part of my Ancestry subscription, but I'm not sure if you can access it. It is a collection of Quebec church records and is vital for doing research here. In any case, here is the address: http://search.ancestry.ca/search/db.aspx?dbid=1091

Will look more later.

Eddie Waldron also had a daughter Beverley born 1944. She married Floyd Burrill. I will ask my father about any other family, as Dad knew Eddie for years.

Hi Rhoda,

Wow, thank you so much. Any info he can give would be great, I am desperate to find out whatever I can as I will never have the opportunity to know him directly. I would also love to make contact with any family I may have.

Just in case you are able to find out more, my email address is adustybin@googlemail.com.

Thank you so much.

Sorry, Rhoda, I was logged into my other account when I replied. Just wanted to confirm that it was me posting my reply, I was just too excited by your post to check which account I was logged into.

Thanks
