I haven't received a reply Albert. Was the information that I provided regarding Jennie CARRUTHERS SHELL useful, or is there something else specifically that you were hoping for? Also, are you able to provide me with any information about William SHELL Sr and his family from your end? I know that William is buried in Richmond, QC, as is Thomas Cunningham. Greta is also buried there. Did she marry, have children? What happened to the remaining siblings? When, why did they leave Richmond? Any clues at all? I'd be grateful for any info about Wm SHELL and family that you might wish to share.

hi
this whole geneology thing can be daunting at first - but it's so addicting once you get going

the information does not come without digging - it's like picking through a good detective novel - you have to be very patient and persistent.
Using Ancestrys search function - I just put in the information that you provided- Charles" name then added his date of birth in th elittle pull down section called life events
I putthat he was born in ireland - then pulled down again and added that he lived in Montral Quebec canada
then I added his spouse Elizabeth
at he bottom of that screen I ticked the box that says collections - I chose "Canadian only "
this hlps limit the info yu get otherwise it will be overwhelming.
I could see his 1901, 1911 census documants- this shows birth dates also children - which are good markers as you go ahead and try to separate out information from others with the same name. then it looks at some point as though he tried or did go to the US...
That took mt about 5 minutes so Im sure you will find good information - rememberto save stuff as you go - eoither on your tree if you are sure its correct or inyou shoe box if you need to think about it -
all the best!!
Hello,
You are indeed correct about the wife of Jonathan Fowler Perkins. I have a copy of the marriage record and it states that she is the widow of Joel Leet. Rhoda died 1 Dec 1838 and is buried in Claremont Hill Cemetery, Shipton, Quebec. The county for Shipton in 1820 was Buckinghamshire and not Richmond.
I have a copy of the Will for Jonathan and he lists only his son Joel and his grandson William Fowler Perkins. Will is dated 14 Nov 1859.
Joel Perkins married Mary/Polly Richardson, d/o Dexter & Anna (Perkins) Richardson.
I have "Jabez Guy Richardson", bc 1797 in US, married to Rachel Olney Nutting. He is listed as "Jabez" in the 1851 Shipton census. Jabez died 8 May 1853 and Rachel married 2) William Copeland. I do not have parents listed for either of these individuals.
I have done lots of research on most of the early families of Shipton & Melbourne area. I am sending you my email address so we can send messages driectly rather than this way. Hope you will agree to this.
Micki M.
mismicki@aol.com

I am also searching for ancestors of Martha Rowan Robinson. You can visit the link below for more information on Martha Rowan Robinson. Martha was the daughter of William Rowan and Catherine Morris. This link starts with William Rowan and you can follow it in the direction you wish. Are you a descendant of Martha Rowan? If you are I am interested in talking to you. I was able to follow Martha's children through 2 or 3 generations but then everything seems to stop. I found the Wisdom/Kroon names associated with Martha's son Fred A Rowan's daughter Helen Eva Robinson who married David Preston Wisdom but it ends there (See 2nd link for David Preston Wisdom). A long time ago I was able to tie the Wisdom and Kroon names together but I don't remember how and I can't seem to find it again.
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tapr/d11.h...

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tapr/d13.h...

Hi Robert, Between work and kids etc, it is hard yo stay focused on family history. 1st thing is, here is my home email vice thru ancestry. bandit123@ns.sympatico.ca A number of years ago a relative sent me her research (it was read-only) I never noticed and I saved it. well by the time I noticed all my files were read only. Needless to say I have slowly been putting it back in. I have found many of the adam DCOTT/FARQUHAR/ Finlay/FINDLAY have slowly migrated to New Hampshire vermont maine area. I went last wed nite and was reviewing Muirlirk PRO's for Findlay. Not that many. Same as SCOTT. But there are 2 maybe 3 families of SCOTT in New Cumnock, Muirkirk and surrounding counties. Can you email me at home email then It will be easier to email back and fothe. I will spend I promise a hour this afternoon looking thru my notes. No work today,so a long weekend. later Eliz'th

Hi Robert, Just got back from Europe yesterday, so trying to clean out msgs. Yours will NOT be deleted. I have a letter from my Adam FARQUHAR to his bro Hugh in townships from Scot. before he and others came over. He mentions his wifes bro William as wanting to come over too. From my searching I think FINDLEY/McQUEEN are the parents but since I don't have my material out right now I am only working from memory.?! I will try to email later or tomorrow with answers to your questions, plus a few questions of my own. Do you know anything about Adam SCOTT in Townships or Scot?
I am searching FARQUHAR, FINDLEY, SCOTT, in Scotland.
eliz'th

Hi Micki,

I also would be very interested in the Morrill family history if you see any connection to the couple in the marriage record transcribed below. I do not have any information on this couple after their wedding. Also, do you know if the Daniel S. Morrill who married Margaret Cook in Shipton in 1843 is the same. He signed his name as opposed to Daniel Smith Morrill who had to make his mark. I also have the 1860 baptism record of their children with the oldest being born prior to their marriage.

Lewis Wright was my 3GGrandfather and his daughter, Rosannah Wright married Daniel Smith Morrill. I am descended from his son Samuel Wright and his first marriage.

Marriage Record:
1835, Shipton, Sherbrooke, Quebec
Daniel Smith Morrill, of the township of Tingwick, Farmer, and Rosannah Wright of the township of Wotton, Spinster and minor were married at Wotton after due publications of banns on the fourteenth day of December Eighteen hundred and Thirty Five. by A.J. Parker, Min., Congregational Church
Daniel Smith Morrill (his mark)
Rosannah Wright (signature)
Witnesses:
Lewis Wright (signature) [her father]
William Sloan (signature) [her brother-in-law]

Lewis Wright donated his land to William Sloan in exchange for his and his wife's (Sarah Jameson Wright) care for their lifetime. However around 1837 he left the area of Wotton and died in 1840 in Newcomerstown, Ohio.

Surnames: Wright, Jameson, Harvey, Morrill, Adams, Proulx/Prew, Sloan, Edie/Eady
I am using the census to know that in 1911 Charles and Elizabeth were in Montreal and at that time they had 9 children. One of their sons became my husband's grandfather. I am searching in Quebec for Dohans and Daltons. Nothing was passed down through the family. I know that Daltons were originally for Ireland but I know nothing else. Can you advise where I start looking? The census and automated genealogy is the only place I know. I have no idea what tools are good ones.

All I am able to find at this time is the census from 1852 that shows Thomas Dohan as farmer - 43 years and his wife Ellen age 38. Both were born in Ireland. They had 7 children at the time 3 born in Ireland and 3 born in Canada. I am very new to genealogy and only use the census and automated genealogy. I need someone with experience to advise where to look and what tools are the best. Dohan and Dalton are my husband's side of the family. Nothing was carried down. I know that Dohans were from Richmond and Daltons Montreal and Sherbrooke. I would appreciate advice.

Albert, you've made my day! Wm Shell Sr, married my great aunt Mary Jane (Jennie)CARRUTHERS in Melbourne/Richmond, QC in 1894. Jennie CARRUTHERS, together with her 4 sisters (Elizabeth Dorothy Carruthers was my grandmother)were Home Children, born in England and sent to Canada as children. The 5 girls were born in Liverpool - I can share that info if you want it - but their father died, Mom unable to care for them, and they were sent to Canada in a child migrant scheme. 4 of the 5 girls were distributed to their new "homes" from the Knowlton Distributing Home in Knowlton, QC. Jennie and her sister Margaret - who married Wm TUDGE in Melbourne in 1896 - both settled in the Richmond area. Wm Shell and Jennie had 6 children in all: Francis, Arthur, William, Greta, May and Harry. Wm and Jennie returned to England before the 1901 census was taken, as they are listed in the 1901 UK census, living in a parish of Liverpool, LANCS. I don't know when the family returned to Canada, but I reached a brick wall upon release of the Canadian 1911 census, because I found Wm Sr, Wm Jr, Greta and May, but they're living in hostels in Quebec City. No sign of Jennie and the other children. I've suspected that she may have left the marriage and gone to the US, as her sister Margaret TUDGE did that before 1901. I've found Margaret TUDGE and her son John living in the Boston, MA area in the 1920 census. Margaret is remarried to H. Rockwell OSBORNE. Do you have any information as to when/how Jennie arrived in the US? I have details of the marriage of May, who bore Thomas Cunningham's son, Harold, 2 years before their marriage in Richmond, QC in 1922. I have more detail, but won't bore the group here. Contact me offline if you wish to compare notes: soules1@sympatico.ca
