My family descends from William's son Anthony who married Harriett Wilson. Info taken from the family bible shows that William had the following children:
William b. June 1815 England m. Ann Wintle
Anthony b. 21 Feb 1817 England d. 14 Oct 1896 Gravenhurst
m. Harriett Wilson
Mary Ann b. 4 Dec 1825 m. Jack Lawerson

Would like any info on this family since not much is known until the next generation.

I am a descendant of William Miller and Jane Harbottle. Anthony Miller, who left Cumberland Mills for Gravenhurst Ontario, was a brother to my direct ancestor, William Miller.
We have been trying to locate this long lost line of our family and i saw this message posted. I have a copy of William and Janes marriage cert. from Morpeth England.... contact me.

In looking at an earlier post, I have noticed a discrepancy.William Miller and Janes Harbottle had 3 children, and the oldest was another Willliam , however, he married Catherine Caron in Quebec. It was their first son, William the 3rd, who married Annie Wintle. This couple is buried in the Bingham Village Cemetary, Bingham Me.
Their second son was named after William 1sts borther, Anthony.

I am a direct descendant of Wm and Jane. This is the info I have gathered.

First Generation

1. William MILLER , was born between 1771 and 1801. Listed as married at least 30 yrs of age and less than 60 yrs of age. According to a note in the possession of Nellie (Miller) Parish which was written by Jane Harbottle Miller they came from England 7 Sept 1817, came to Fref. Cumberland, Beauce Co, PQ, Canada about 1820 or 1821.

Fief Cumberland was called Consession Harbottle in 1831 St. Francois, Beauce co, Census.
Census states that they were of the Church of England.
William was a cultivator.

There were 5 in the family...2 age 5 and under...1 female age 6 and under 14. This does not coincide with the birth dates I have in my records.

William MILLER and Jane HARBOTTLE were married on 4 Oct 1812 in Morpeth, England. Witnesses were Anthony Harbottle and Elizabeth Miller. The marriage certificate is in the hands of Alice Cahill Thibeault. Jane HARBOTTLE was born. William MILLER and Jane HARBOTTLE had the following children:

+2 i. William MILLER 2nd, born in Jun 1815, England; married Catherine CARON, on 7 Aug 1838, St Francois de Beauce, PQ, Canada ; died on 9 May 1895, Cumberland Mills, PQ, Canada .
+3 ii. Anthony MILLER 1st, born in Feb 1817, England; married Harriet WILSON, on 4 Mar 1861, Cumberland Mills, PQ, Canada; died in Oct 1896.
+4 iii. Mary Ann MILLER, born in Dec 1825, Canada ; married Johnathan LAURISON 1st, on 3 Mar 1848; died before 1861.

I have been doing more research on William Miller and Jane Harbottle. I still cannot seem to go back any further. However, I do have a few clues.... would love it if anyone out there might be able to help! From family documents in the Gravenhurst Millers posession: Ann Harbottle, (who was Jane Harbottle Millers sister) married Robert Gillespie. I found the notation from the minister who married them, and they were married 27 Dec 1817. This causes me to think maybe Ann Harbottle, who was 34 yrs old came over to Canada with her sister Jane and husband William Miller. The 3 men who were the first to get land in Fief Cumberland were Edward Harbottles brother in law, John Stephenson, Robert Gillespie, and William Miller. Is it possible that Ann and Jane were sisters of Edward?? I can find no documentation that they were, but what i have found is that the 2 womens birth years would fit into Edwards family... meaning no one else was born in that same year. I also found that the young man who inherited the fief when Edward Harbottle died in 1851, was his nephew a merchant who lived in a near by city. His last name was Taylor. (This would be the son of Edward's sister, Sarah who married Thomas Taylor.
