sullivans in Coaticook, Quebec, Canada
I hope somebody can help my boyfriend and I get past the brick wall we have hit. We have the names of his great-grand father. It was Reuben Sullivan and he was married to Emeline. They had 2 boys, Edgar (1862) and Hiram (1864). The 1871 census states that Reuben was 49 years old and his wife was 41. In the 1881 Reuben is 50 years old and a widower. It also states that he was born in America and the boys in Quebec. They were methodist. It would be a great help if somebody knew were Reuben was born and what his wifes maiden name was. Thanks.

Your best bet would be to try to find out when & where REUBEN SULLIVAN died and then check the local paper for an obituary and hope that where he was born was included. Here is an item I found on a MRS. HIRAM SULLIVAN. And, the 1881 Canada Census & HIRAM SULLIVAN & family in 1901. I tried to find REUBEN SULLIVAN in 1850 & 1860 US census records to no avail.

Re: sullivans in Coaticook, Quebec, Canada
Hi.....
I just came across your msg.
The following will answer part of your question as to Reuben's wife's maiden name.
[Edgar Sullivan and Anna Hill were married February 27, 1882. Both resided in Dixville, Que., Canada. He was a 21 year old carpenter. He was born in Barnston, Que. to Reuben and Emelain/Emiline (nee Dunning) Sullivan.]
Hope this is of some help.
Which branch (Edgar or Hiram) are you off of?
Regards Darlene

Hi Darlene, Thank you so much for for your help. It might just be the break (mother's maiden name) that we need to get a step further in our research. It is very much appriciated. Dorthe

Hi Darlene, OOOPS. I didn't see the last question. My boyfriends family is out of Edgar and Annie. They had a son, Leonard Earl, and Leonard had a son Colin Randall. Colin's son, Randall Colin is my boyfriend. And yes you guessed it, Randall Colin has a son named Colin Randall. Thanks again for your help.

Re: sullivans in Coaticook, Quebec, Canada
Hi Dorthe.....
The reason I asked you which branch your boyfriend was from was because Edgar's wife Annie ties in with my 'Young' family in a round about way.
My G. Grandmother (on my father's side) was Lodema (Hill) sister of Annie. Therefore Edgar would have been my Grandfather's 1st cousin (that's correct isn't it :-)
Do you have any old photos of these people or know anyone that might have?
Here is some additional info in case you don't already have it -
[Edgar Sullivan and Anna Hill were married February 27, 1882. Both resided in Dixville, Que., Canada. He was a 21 year old carpenter. He was born in Barnston, Que. to Reuben and Emelain/Emiline (Dunning) Sullivan. Anna Hill was 17 and born in Holland, Vermont. Her parents were Silas and Ann (Taplin) [Source: Margaret Castonguay, Ass't at Town Clerk's office, Island Pond, Vermont, Town of Brighton] [Source: Town of Brighton (Island Pond), Vermont - Town Clerk's Vital Records - Book I, Pages 4, 15 and 24]
Looking forward to hearing from you. If you would like - you can e-mail directly.

Re: sullivans in Coaticook, Quebec, Canada
I was searching for Sullivans in Coaticook and found your very helpful reply to an earlier inquiry. Wondered if you might be able to point me in a useful direction - My great-grandfather Harley Holbrook was a widower (in his late 70s) from Beebe Plains and married Cora Sullivan from Coaticook in 1945. I have no idea where or when he died, and would appreciate any leads. Thanks! Lee Whitcomb
