Bristol B. Smith - Coaticook, Quebec (pls. see msg.)
Hi.....
I'm hoping someone will recognize this name as I would like to know who he m. & the names of his children (if he had any).
He is listed in the 1901 Census - son of William & Etta V. Smith. His brothers Charles & Merritt were also listed in the census & I would like to find out about them too.
In LDS site, it says Bristol Smith b. 29 Dec., 1895, Coaticook, Stanstead Co., Quebec; d. 6 Apr., 1957; m. 21 June, 1926 but doesn't list to whom.
I'm desc. from Richard Greenleaf Smith & I strongly believe Bristol's father William was a bro. of Richard's.
Any info/help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Darlene

Re: Bristol B. Smith - Coaticook, Quebec (pls. see msg.)
Bristol Brown Smith was the younger brother of my grandfather Merritt Homer Smith. They had an older brother named Charles. All 3 boys were the children of William H. Smith and his wife Etta Victoria (Brown) Smith. Their father William H. was the brother of Richard Greenleaf Smith. Bristol's first wife died in childbirth (along with the baby) and I don't know what her name was. His second wife's first name was Dorothy, but her last name is unknown. His marriage to Dorothy is most likely what the 1926 record refers to. Bristol never had any other children than the one that died at birth. Charles was married and had one son named Frank; no one knows the name of his wife. She abandoned both Charles and Frank shortly after Frank was born. Charles was killed in a hunting accident about 1918 when Frank was still an infant and Frank was raised by his grandmother Etta Victoria Smith. Merritt left Coaticook as a young man for health reasons. He suffered from TB and was told he would die unless he moved to a drier climate. He settled in Alberta, Canada after WWI and married Lillian Lane in 1921. They had 3 children -- Stanley Merritt, Marion Lauretta, and Norma Lillian. My mother, Marion L., is the last surviving great grandchild of William and Etta Smith.

Re: Bristol B. Smith - Coaticook, Quebec (pls. see msg.)
Hi M. Horne...... Your reply to my msg. has GREAT timing as I've been in touch with a desc. from William bro. Bryant side. As from my previous msg., you'll know I'm a desc. from Richard Greenleaf's side (other bro. to William). We've been trying to figure out who some of our unknown pictures are of & put names, if we can, on them. I would really like hearing from you again & was wondering if you wouldn't mind e-mailing me at dwnautomation@on.aibn.comAlso, I want to thank you so much for the info you gave me. In your msg., I noticed you had William's middle initial H. Do you know what that stands for? I didn't know whether if his middle name initial was an 'H' or an 'F'! Hope you can e-mail me. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you. Darlene

Re: Bristol B. Smith - Coaticook, Quebec (pls. see msg.)
I found a little something about Bristol. His name was Bristol Brown Smith (makes him easier to find, doesn't it). He was married twice - first to Margaret Burton Miller, in Quebec City on November 2, 1921. He was a bachelor of major age and a telegraph operator. Margaret was the daughter of William Robert Miller of Kilmarnock, Scotland. Margaret died "at her home in Coaticook" on June 24, 1924, and is buried in Mount Forest Cemetery. Then, on June 22, 1927, to Dorothy Iola Dougherty. He was the son of William Smith and Etta Victoria Brown, and he was, at the time of his marriage to Dorothy, a widower of major age and a Customs officer. All three are buried in Mount Forest Cemetery: http://www.interment.net/data/canada/qc/stanstead/mtforest/f...

Hi Susan.......
Wow! Thanks Susan for the added marriage dates & wive's names for Bristol plus the additional info. This is GREAT. I really appreciate it. Others will also benefit from this too.
I do have one question though. Can you give me the source of the marriage info as I would like to quote the source in my records.
Thanks also for adding the link of the cemetery. I will have a look.

Re: Bristol B. Smith - Coaticook, Quebec (pls. see msg.)
Hi Darlene, Glad you could use that info. I got it from Drouin. There is likely more in there that I can find, too. If you are researching in Quebec, the fee to use Drouin is very worthwhile. You use it through the Ancestry site, and I no longer remember how I paid for it or what the cost was. It contains birth, marriage and death records from churches of all denominations throughout Quebec. Of course, there are missing years in some churches, but the amount of information it contains is astounding. I will attach the files for Bristol here. You can see his signature and so forth, since these are the actual church records. Let me know if you do not receive them and I will try some other way.
