John Smith m. Margaret Campbell

I am looking for the marriage record for the couple in the subject line.
On the 1881 census they are living in Compton, Winslow South and have a child Daniel age 1. I am assuming they were married 1878-1880. Margaret's parents were Allan and Catherine McIver.
I am trying to find the parents of John Smith.
Any help would be much appreciated.
David

Hi Lynde,
Thank you very much for your reply, however, this are not the correct couple. The marriage I am looking for would have taken place in Compton County, Quebec.
I know Margaret's parents are Allan Campbell and Catherine McIver.
Thank you again.

Hi,

I see that Margaret and her family (parents, siblings) are in Winslow South in 1871 also.

So I assume, as you do that she would have married there and as John is shown as born Quebec and is same age as Margaret, I looked to see if there is a John Smith in South Winslow in 1871 and there is one of right age. To be sure of this John you will need to find some other record to confirm he is right fellow but seems possible.

1871 WINSLOW SOUTH, COMPTON, QUEBEC
SMITH
Malcolm, age 25, farmer, born Quebec - married January
Henrietta age 24, born Scotland - married January
Mary, age 55, widow, born Scotland
Norman, age 20, farmer, born Scotland
John, age 17, farmer, born Quebec
Murdoch, age 14, born Quebec
Donald, age 12, born Quebec
Donald, age 1/12, born Quebec - born March

1861 COMPTON, QUEBEC
SMITH
Donald, age 45, born Scotland
Mary, age 45, born Scotland
Malcolm, age 21, born Scotland
Ann, age 18, born Scotland
Isabella age 15, born Scotland
Effy, age 13, born Scotland
Norman, age 11, born Scotland
John, age 8, born Lower Canada
Murdoch, age 5, born Lower Canada
Donald, age 2, born Lower Canada

Hi again,

Did John and Margaret and Daniel stay in Quebec or did they move elsewhere?

As the Quebec Drouin database does not seem to have any of the Campbell or Smith families, I thought that if they had gone elsewhere perhaps their death records might contain some useful info.

Thank you very much for your messages. I started looking elsewhere in Canada and found them in the 1901, 1911 and 1921 censuses for Vancouver (my hometown).
John and Margaret are on the 1901 and 1911 censuses with a son Walter. By 1921 I can only find Walter working in the shipyards in North Van. I located his death certificate, but found nothing on it.
They were also on the 1891 census in B.C. with son Walter, age 2.
I have no idea what became of Daniel.
I think the Smith family you referenced is a good possibility. I have written to Bill Lawson on the Isle of Lewis for any additional info he may have.
Thank you again.
The hunt continues.
