Young Family of Stanstead, Quebec
Looking for any information on the Young family from Stanstead, Quebec. Frederick Young who married Gertrude Laliberte or Frederick's parents Albert Young and I believe Amorett Woodrow. I have found some records from North Hatley and Waterville in the latter 19th century, but unable to find any information on Frederick Young's birth in Suffield, Quebec or even any information on his father Albert Young and where he was from.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: Young Family of Stanstead, Quebec
daphnie Go to www.automatedgenealogy.com to get 1911 census and more. According to the census, Albert Young was born in the U.S.A. As for Suffield, does not exist in Quebec. Where did you get that info? North Hatley Cemetery (Reedsville Cemetery) North Hatley, Stanstead County, Quebec Laliberte, Gertrude, b. 1881, d. 1982, s/w & wife of Frederick Young Young, Frederick James, b. 1876, d. 1943, s/w Gertrude Laliberte Hope it helps. Let us know what else you need. Ginette

Re: Young Family of Stanstead, Quebec
Well, Suffield may not exist any more, but it did exist. It was between Sherbrooke and Rock Forest (somewhere up in that area). It was often called "Suffield Mines" because it was the site of a mine (silver, I think). My father talked of it often.

Re: Young Family of Stanstead, Quebec
Thanks for the information, I'll have a look at that website. As for Suffield, Quebec, Frederick Young states that this is the place he was born on his WWI attestation papers. On www.ancestry.ca do a search under military and type in Fred J Young, DOB 1877 and what will appear is a Canadian Soldiers of WWI link, open it up and this is his attestation papers. Birth location says Suffield, Quebec.

Re: Young Family of Stanstead, Quebec
This site contains a map showing where Suffield is located. I think it must have been quite a flourishing place when the mine was in operation. It was a copper mine, not silver, as I had thought. Quite a few Ancestry entries mention births, deaths and marriages in Suffield. http://www.infomine.com/index/properties/SUFFIELD_MINE.htmlThat entire area is covered by the City of Sherbrooke now.

Re: Young Family of Stanstead, Quebec
Dad was born and lived most of his life in Waterville, Quebec, not that far from Sherbrooke (about 7 miles). He knew a lot of people and, I suppose, in his youth, young ladies, in various places. He also had a friend who was a reporter for one of the local newspapers. I can't remember the name of that man, but he was killed in a fire in a hotel in Sherbrooke when he was still quite young. In any case, I know Dad went with him when he was writing a story on the Eustis Mine and went down in the mine with him. He may have gone to Suffield, as well. This whole region (the Eastern Townships) is very beautiful and historically very rich, and it's a nice place for your ancestors to come from. PS: There was a Young family in Ives Hill when I was growing up. Gordon Young and his family. I just checked and they are buried in Ives Hill, as well. http://www.interment.net/data/canada/qc/compton/ives_hill/in...Do they belong to you?

Re: Young Family of Stanstead, Quebec
I am a son of Gordon Young and lived a very short distance from Ives' Hill. My father, Gordon, passed away in 1999 and is interred in Grimsby, Ontario where he moved in 1955. His father Frederick Young also moved to Grimsby, Ontario where he passed in 1974. I believe that Frederick's father, William, had a brother, Albert Young, according to the 1871 census (Pg. 28, District 142, Compton, Sub-District Hereford Township. Albert is listed as being 20 at that time. He had a sister, Lydia (aged 16) and a brother, William (my great grandfather, aged 10).

Re: Young Family of Stanstead, Quebec
Thanks for that reply. I remember the Youngs, because my cousins, Evelyn and Ashley Allison and their family, lived very close to them. The Allisons also went to Ontario (Hagersville) at around that same time. Did you have a sister called Shirley?

Re: Young Family of Stanstead, Quebec
Thank you for the information, but I have Frederick Young as being buried in Reeds Cemetery in Quebec in 1943 and his father as being Albert Young. I did find them though in the Welland area in the 1921 census, where Frederick was a foreman. Do you have anymore proof that you could share with me on this matter? Thank you.
