KEMP - JOSEPH and JOSEPH SARGENT his son
Hello ; The LDS FHC has on CD # 1 the descendents of JOSEPH KEMP and THEODOTY CAMBER , but of course does not list " living". I am trying to trace JOSEPH KEMP the father , back to England ; apparently he was b. abt. 1815 supposedly in King's Lynn, Norfolk. I have contacted numerous facilities in Norfolk and gone over abt. 12 tapes at the FHC , trying to verify anything ,/ something / whatever. I did find a JAMES KEMP and MARIA COBB who had a JOSEPH b. 1815 in Cawston , Norfolk - but nothing to verify. There were several KEMP families in King's Lynn who were sea-farers and Ship Captains, and a correspondent suggested that JOSEPH could have come to Canada on one of those vessels, in 1837 - but again , no verification .

Re: KEMP - JOSEPH and JOSEPH SARGENT his son
Have you been in touch with Angela in New Zealand? She and Holly McKenzie seem to be the primary Camber researchers. I think you can get to Angela's webpage by typing in the Camber name on google. The Camber's are part of my line, too. Polly M. Camber (Place) Brown was the mother of my gr-gr-grandfather Benjamin Place. I may have some data in my files but nothing I can put my hands on at the minute. Theodoty and Polly are both from the line of John Henry Camber and Heborah Data, they moved from the area of Stratford, Vermont to Stanstead, Quebec in the early 1800's. There are still Camber's living in and around Stanstead, Quebec. and in Orleans County Vermont.

Re: KEMP - JOSEPH and JOSEPH SARGENT his son
Hello ; Thank you , yes I have contacted Angela in the past, but have not been able to contact McKenzie. Angela sent me a lot of data for my DUTTON, as well as CAMBER ancestors, she was a great help. I am trying to determine the Native-American heritage of my husband , and have been told that THEODOTY CAMBER was part Indian - my husband remembers his Paternal Grandmother SARAH JANE KEMP, daughter of THEODOTY and JOSEPH KEMP , as teaching his father CALVIN DUTTON various remedies, apparently passed down to her. He had always been told of his Indian Heritage as well. I have been unable to reach Angela lately, to try and verify this- is the reason for my posting. Sure would appreciate any help on this, thanks, Sally

Re: KEMP - JOSEPH and JOSEPH SARGENT his son
Thank you for this information, your KEMPs seem to be a bit earlier than when JOSEPH KEMP emigrated, he came to Quebec abt. 1836-37 and married THEODOTY CAMBER 1840..... do you have where your KEMPs originated from, , in England ? JOSEPH is reported to have come from Norfolk, around King's Lynn area, and I did trace some KEMP families there but could never prove any connection to JOSEPH.... there is always a possibility they are related to your KEMP but I have no data to show this , but sure appreciate seeing what you can share ... thanks, Sally.....

Re: KEMP - JOSEPH and JOSEPH SARGENT his son
i dont know if this may help?. I have a thomas kemp born lynn norfolk abt 1816 in my family tree. In the 1851 census he and his family were living in king lynn however i feel he was only there at that time because of his job he was working as a sub concractor on the estuary. His wife and children were all born in fincham norfolk .They later moved to aston birmingham.I looked at the 1851 census for fincham norfolk and there was a Thomas kemp living there born abt 1792 also in lynn.this Thomas was vet and a farmer and also the licensee of the crown inn at fincham from 1836-1845 i wonder if there is any connection?I am sure this is my thomas,s father but have not yet verified it yet.there may be a connection with your joseph If any one can help would you please reply

Re: KEMP - JOSEPH and JOSEPH SARGENT his son
Hello - I don't know if your THOMAS KEMP is related to my JOSEPH but the dates sound right.... my JOSEPH emigrated to Quebec about 1835-37.... but I know nothing about him before that, and am seeking his siblings and family in Norfolk....... there was a MARIA COBB had twins I think about 1815-16 and one was a JOSEPH, but I have no connection.... if you are in England you might have more opportunity to research, I am over the pond and have not been able to find much from here.......

hallo again i will keep looking and let you know what i find. the problem is that there is only a small number of norfolk records online. I have spoken to a very helpful lady at the local records office in norfolk and she has told me she will take a look and let me know if she finds anything. visiting myself is not possable at the moment as i work 7 days a week from march to september but i do hope to visit the records office in the autumn.
