Hi, I am a Rowsell from the Lower North Shore of Quebec. My ancestors came to Harrington Harbour in the late 1800's and settled there to fish. My grandfather's name is Henry and great-grandfather is John. Besides that I am not quite sure of any thing else. I have stories that we came from Pushthrough or Leading Tickles...I would like to know if anyone has any information about any Rowsells who left Nfld. for Quebec in about that time. Any and all replys will be welcome.

I hope this is of some help. My mother's maiden name is Camp and her entire family come from Pusthrough, NL. Her grandfather's name is Henry Camp who settled in NL in the early 1800's (1805 ish). Was his lastname Camp, if so you & may be related. My mother told me I am related to Roswells. Her middle name is Lee, and is named for her mother's maiden name. Her father ist William George Camp and her mother is Winnifred Maud Camp (nee Lee)

HI Henry Rowsell,

According to some family records that I have uncovered, your last name was (a while ago) Roussel (or some version thereof). I'm not sure if you are still searching for your family, but I may be able to provide you with some info about your ancestors who did, indeed, come from Pushthrough/McCallum/Hermitage and other small outports on the south coast of Newfoundland. The Roussels were part of the Camp/Lee/Lilly group who settled in the area. the Roussels and the Camps, from what I have been able to discover, were Hugenots who settled (when Protestants weren't very welcome in France) first in England and then in places such as Newfoundland and the British Colonies, including, in time, Québec.
